Title: The Manang Valley
Post by: David Paterson on August 18, 2019, 00:15:20
I'm still busy at the task of reducing my huge archive of images on film, by around 90%. I'm finding a lot of rubbish, and a few nuggents - this is one.

The Valley of Manang in northern Nepal lies close to the border with Tibet and feels pretty remote when you are there. At least it did in 1984 when this image was made. It will be fairly different now, I fear.

Beautiful David, it must re-kindle many memories going through these remarkable images.  Another exhibition?

Beautiful gradient!  The sense of depth is amazing.

Thanks for yor kind comments, Jacques, Seapy and Akira.

Robert - I won't be having any more exhibitions, I think. Too expensive, and far too much work at my time of life. But yes - I am enjoying clearing out those filing cabinets and liberating a few forgotten images, often from 30 or 40 years ago.

Very nice picture indeed Dave, I am glad you are making this effort.
Manang is where I started feeling altitude sickness 16 years ago, but managed to maintain it low enough to be allowed to reach Thorung pass... These are places I will never forget.

Wonderful place and picture.
I think it is close to Mustang.

Thank you, Bent, Olivier and Aguinaldo.

Wonderful place and picture.
I think it is close to Mustang.

Yes, just 2-3 long days on foot over the Thorong La and down to Jomosom where they were selling government passes to Mustang (this was in 1984). They wanted U$100 per person per day, minimum 7 days. That was a lot of money in 1984 and we simply didn't have it. I never did get into Mustang and Nepal-wise it is my greatest regret.

Jakov and Paco - thanks very much - I'm glad you liked the picture of Manang.  It was a very cold place!

That is a magnificent photograph: I love the variety of tones and the way in which successive ridges are separated by the rising mist.

Thank you, Ann and Anthony,

That is a magnificent photograph: I love the variety of tones and the way in which successive ridges are separated by the rising mist.

There was a lot of dust in the air; also smoke from a village which is barely visible at the foot of the LH ridges.
