Unfortunately there was no time to talk with the performers. The person in photo #2 teaches Maori culture and language to children to keep the native spirit alive. The ceremony itself is a sacred event. The guide asked us not to laugh. So apparently tourist had laughed in the past. The ignorance of tourists..
I must admit that the ceremony appeared more like a “stay away” than a “welcome” due to my lack of knowledge.
But I am glad to have seen it.
As I was mostly interested in the facial expressions I decided to use a longer lens.
