That's what I am finding with the D800, the files are so pliable, hitherto invisible shadow detail is now available, where with other older cameras it was missing completely or so noisy as to be useless.

Just trying to cheer you up, my friend. Animals crawling around in your hair always are suspicious creatures, aren't they?
-
An Ice structure, Jack. ? Is it so cold there?
I visited just following a major snow storm with very negative temperatures so the lake had a thick layer of ice. This is a small chunk of it. For our Nordic members I’m sure it is an ordinary experience, but for me it was the first time I’ve stepped on a frozen lake for perhaps 40 years.
-
Just trying to cheer you up, my friend. Animals crawling around in your hair always are suspicious creatures, aren't they?
there was no one crawling in my hair, all stuff I found was dead, like dandruff and tiny pieces of my haglöfs skull cap.
So If I should had dead lice in my hair, they probably have been alive earlier?
what I see is a lot of biological waste some of it looking like animal remains...

A quick test this morning with my new Broncolor 1600 Ws studio flash, using a single flash head at 1 m distance with a wide reflector. I used a UV-Nikkor 105mm f/4.5 lens on my D3200 with internal Baader U filter and shot at f/10, ISO 100 with the flash output turned down 2 stops.
This flash has an uncoated Xenon 1600Ws tube and a clear quartz protector. It run on mains A/C. I could have used a narrower reflector but was curious to learn what exposure levels could be obtained on a wider scene. The reason for the f/10 setting was that I also compared this capture (in terms of exposure) with that of the 25mm f/2.8 Laowa Ultra-Macro Lens 2.5-5X, which is effective f/9.8 at 2.5X.
I also included a patch painted with the Black 2.0 flat black paint (Culturehustle by Stuart Semple).to understand its UV properties. The patch is the smaller of the three circular objects. Also included is some dry Plumeria (assumed to be very UV dark) and my UVEX lab goggles (hopefully they would be UV-dark as well).
The test scene is this,
(http://ultravioletphotography.com/content/uploads/monthly_02_2019/post-2-0-10015000-1549821068.jpg)
and it is obvious the Black 2.0 really holds up well in UV too. Same can be said for the UV protective goggles.
Later, I found the Laowa lens needed +2 EV re the UV-Nikkor, which is actually very good, but I don't think its UV response go much below 380 nm. I do need a more appropriate target for that lens, though.
-
Always a treat to see your tests :)

My last outdoor photo before I was taken ill with bronchitis -- now weather has changed erratically and temperature risen 10-15C in a couple of days. Meaning the nice snow dusting of trees etc. is gone, and all that remains is wet snow and ice.
Never understood why the bus company placed a bus stop here. Nothing exists here except for the trees in the forest. Perhaps they are obliged by regulations to have bus stops at given intervals?

Pink or pinkish orange, not white. We agree.

Frank, thanks for showing us this image and the detail that you have extracted from it.
How many images have you combined here and what exposure separation between them did you choose?

Frank, thanks for showing us this image and the detail that you have extracted from it.

this is only one picture shot in RAW. I guess the DR of the D850 is higher than the DR of the film. That means that I can extract details from the shadows and the highlights by
a. converting the NEF without losing shadows or highlights
b. Developing the 16 Bit Tiff result with a HDR plugin in Photoshop.
Example: The red jacket is black in the slide projection, but the D850 can see it as underexposed color...
-
Thank you Frank - I have ~3,000 slides waiting to be digitised, so your comments are appreciated.
D850 prices have dropped here, so now is a good time to look into that one as well! ;)

Akira, Your lovely Plum Blossoms are very inviting to this winter weary denizen of Connecticut. They don't appear here until April. Tokyo is at 35 degrees north and we are at 41- yet such a differences as to when flowers bloom.
Also thanks for commenting about my little friend peering through the fence. It amused me too, but also made me feel a bit sorry to see him so situated on a cold winter day.

Japanese plums blossom here on February 5th +/- a couple of days. They are remarkably consistent! Cherry trees seem to vary more and don’t show until April.
Photos of flowers must be the most boring thing for others to look at, but are a wonderful experience to the photographer.

I think I am mistaken about Plum Blossoms, they are similar to other types of flowering trees in my yard. It's like birdwatching, you see a Savannah Sparrow and you try to turn it into the much less common Vesper Sparrow until evidence is brought to your attention that tells you otherwise. Still, nothing is blossoming here in my yard, not even Snow Drops!

Tom, I'm glad you enjoy the plum image. The time plum flowers (white or pink) bloom is so varying according to the amount of the sunlight the trees are getting, even in my small area in Tokyo. The cherry blossoms are more in synch with each other in much larger area.
And, yes, your little friend looks a little lonely...

Seldom to this degree. I mean Winter storms normally only provide dusting of snow when they provide any snow at all in this area. The contrast between the desert floor and the very close by snowy peaks prompted me to grab the shot. It was snowing in Scottsdale and Cave Creek, and out in Malibu, California, I hear. Noteworthy storm, eh!
Below is what that same area looks like normally, although shot with my iPhone, not a DSLR @ 150mm like the snowy version.

Yesterday I took photographs of a rowing regatta. As you might know, to move as fast as possible and have a stable boat the rowers must be very synchronized. Usually from the shore it looks as if they are moving together as one. While it is true that they move together, they do turn outwards towards as they put the oars in the water to get the longest possible stroke. From this exaggerated angle, it almost looks like a conversation.

If the rowers drop and drag oars it can stop very quickly. If they keep them out of the water the boat can glide a considerable distance - perhaps up to 100 meters or so.

Seems to me, and I could be mistaken, completely accurate GPS info for readily available US devices was blocked by federal authority. But, and again my disclaimer that I could be mistaken, I think that restriction has since either been lifted or ignored. The era of the D200 would fall under said restriction, and I don't know how that affected devices in countries other than the USA. My guess is that all publicly available devices had that same restriction, worldwide.

FYI: 'Selective Availability' in the USA based GPS system---the only GPS system known to be operating at the time---was discontinued in May, 2000. SA was a deliberate introduction of error in the signals from the satellites and so was agnostic of the GPS receiver used. On the ground error was intended to be in the neighborhood of 100 meters.

FYI: 'Selective Availability' in the USA based GPS system---the only GPS system known to be operating at the time---was discontinued in May, 2000. SA was a deliberate introduction of error in the signals from the satellites and so was agnostic of the GPS receiver used. On the ground error was intended to be in the neighborhood of 100 meters.

yesterday my architect and me hauled a mountain of paper to the building authority, application for the building permit for the bigger house on my now united two lots. What an effort to create something beautiful!

Thanks, Keith, that clears it up.

Don't have a cat for test shots with new 35mm f/1.8 S on the Z6 so grand-dog Ziggy will have to do:

I think this lens may be a keeper :-)

The 35/1.8s is an outstanding performer -- at least my copy of it is.

From the little bit of testing I have done so far, this lens is simply fantastic. I am looking forward to getting out this weekend and using it.
The 50 f1.8s is really good, and the 35 looks like it might even be a bit better.
