Title: North America forest fires
Post by: Lorne on August 21, 2018, 05:21:30
In western Canada and America this summer has suffered a high number of large forest fires. I live in Victoria, BC, the red circle in the satellite image. Being on the coast, we get much less smoke than further inland, but I thought you might be interested to see what it looks like.

The NASA photo shows is about 2,000 km wide, and shows the massive smoke cloud over BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Smaller fires can be seen in Oregon an Northern California.

My photo shows two views from my balcony, one from April and the other from this morning. For reference, the hospital at the upper left is ~1.4 km away, and the mountains about 50 km away in Washington state.

Yeah It's pretty bad now here also near Portland Oregon.
Was just outside for a minute and it looks like a blood moon.
The smoke makes for some interesting shots.

That is massive!

In march I'm usually complaining because of the smoke due to clearing cane fields north of the city, but usually clears in 2 weeks, 4 at the most
