Title: Country folk
Post by: David Paterson on August 02, 2018, 15:56:10
Yesterday was the Killin Highland Games. As usual it rained quite heavily but I tried to get a few images.

The men are "tossing the caber" - the caber is a wooden pole 6 to 7 metres long and weighing around 70 kilos. They have to throw it up in the air so that it turns and lands in a very precise way. Only very large strong men can do this.   :)

Amazing pictures. You must be in the only place in Europe with rain ;)

Yes, perhaps - but for once, it is really welcome.

Jakov - great idea, but I'll let you make the suggestion to Erik . . . .

Great images. Tossing the caber not for the faint-hearted!

Fantastic images

The guy in the white shirt wins the price for his expression

Dave, so now we have photographic evidence of what a Scotsman wears under his Kilt  :) .  Love the skin tones in the women images and overall.  Thanks for posting.

Not too sure. Seems there is some heavy make-up, and some greenish reflections coming from the grass. Grass is always a problem: be it for soccer or rugby players, or planes flying over a grass landing strip.

Pleasant pictures, by the way 👍🏻

I attended an Highland game back in 2011.
Very relaxed atmosphere.

Thanks for your comments, Tommie, Floyd and Chris.

Floyd - there is a greenish tinge to the girls' skin-tones. However it's not present with the men; I blame the make-up.  :)

Save the postage, just send me size and weight and I will get one in the neighbouring DIY market...

PS: Ok, found it. Larch, 80 Kilos, 6 Meters ... I need more training!  ;D

This is a lively and somewhat humorous report of the traditional event.  I love it!

Thanks, Akira. I really enjoy this kind of opportunity a few times a year; it makes a nice change from landscapes.

Frank - I'm sure you will be able to flip it by mind-powwer alone.   ;D

The image sequence of the highlander in the white shirt and blue skirt is almost comical, in the first image you seen him working hard to launch a piece of timber and in the last image the timber is gone but he still has the same pose, red face, puffy cheeks, etc as if its his normal everyday self  ;D ;D
