Title: Reflections on water
Post by: elsid on April 21, 2018, 18:02:11
This thread is for posting images of subjects with their reflection on water (or thin ice), or just the reflection.

All very nice. I especially like the second one. Where was it taken?

Hello Arthur,
The first 3 photos were taken just  south of Salonica in Greece. In a relatively small distance you find the outlets of 4 rivers.
Nice area for many kinds of photography.

This will be a great thread. I enjoy reflections very much, but I try to take care to now be too obvious about the way I use them.

This one shows a famous reflecting pond.

Thanks Elsid and Tim for the enthusiastic comments. The reflections that paint the water are (as probably guessed) from a couple of buildings near the pond.

Nice flamingos Elsid, both on the first page and in the last post!

Wow, Robert, thank you for sharing the night shot of the Kelpies!  I've seen and have been wondered by them through the images of Dave (David Paterson), but never known how it is lit at night.

Considering their sizes, the scenery should be spectacular.
Title: Re: Reflections on water
Post by: Seapy on April 25, 2018, 21:37:56
Thank you Elsid, that was the first time I had seen them.

Thank you Akira, they are huge and framing is a challenge despite it being a large site, I have to admit I erased the power lines in the background because I find them so distracting.  I think the 16mm fish could be one answer, esp. for a sunset.  I try to arrange my visits to Scotland so I can detour that way, they are so different depending on the time of day, the light and the sky.

I visited again last year intending to make a combined star-trail and night time image of them but the ambient light was way too overpowering.  As far as I know they are on all night, it would perhaps have worked if I had combined image of the Kelpies and then after they were turned off some darker sky images of the stars, but there is a lot of ambient light from more distant sources so I gave up.

Last year when we arrived there was a fashion photo shoot in progress, multiple photographers and models, soft boxes and lighting stands with a large crew.  They eventually wandered off and left us to it.

As before, D3 but with Nikkor 24-120 f/4.0 at ISO 1250, 200 and 1600 respectively. They were exposed at 21:30, 21:33 and 23:35 hrs on 17 July 2017  I had planned to stay until 3am but the sky showed no sign of darkening by midnight, it was almost impossible to see any stars on a pretty clear night so we packed up and carried on to Lindisfarne which was another fiasco!  But that's another story.

Great high key and duck reflections Bob!

The wood frogs should soon be out of their frozen winter state and show up in ponds. Assuming the title implies reflections on a water surfaces, it should be valid to also include those seen from below. It was captured a couple of years ago with AW1 and the 10mm f/2.8 with Olympus fisheye converter. I happy that this capture is currently displayed  at about 20x30" print size size in the lobby of our institute - it illustrates a research project on the frogs.

My pleasure. Maybe I'm missing your point but it is nowhere close to "Tenerife" unless there are more than one. GPS coordinates of the shot are: 36.5282750, -6.3088624
You walk past the "peña flamenca Juan Villar", through the gate and there you are :)

It is possible there are more than one La Caleta beaches.
P. E.: there are!
