Thanks Frank. Luckily the 28/2 is safe. ;) I used the sudden sun with the 'double' window screen of a car to get the desired effect.

My entry for 4 February 2018.
They tear the heart out of our city like they have done before and I have seen it, lived through it ....
But again ...
... they build the uglieness of the current greed there instead of architecture that might inspire generations.
Bloody idiots ...
In this picture, the old utilitarian niceness (green & blue) meets current greediness stupidity (massive background) face to face

Sadly Germany does not have this level of stupity to itself - we seem to have plenty of such examples here in our big cities - and it has been going on for decades.

How is the counting done?

Count each one on the best picture of the herd. That is not hard to do with 36 megapixels. Some years ago, I had to count over double of that in only 5 megapixels (D1X), that was just barely possible

Going to the 'Carnaval' - parade
-
The reason for my not being very active on the forum these days ....
Drowned in more than 1 m of snow outdoors, indoors mired in stacks of packing crates and general chaos. At present there is almost no free floor space left in the Lens House. I have to wriggle my way around using whatever narrow pathway available. First stage of the move out of Oslo occurs fortunately in a few days ahead -- 15th February.
All camera gear has been packed and only a humble V1 is at hand for the occasional snapshot (taken earlier today with the 18.5 mm lens).

I can see that the coffeemaker is still at hand ;)
The chaos will be rectified later I guess

I went on a long walk with an old friend to a quarter I used to live in when I was a child (I know every corner and what is behind it). I love it that rents there are still cheap and many poorer people live there in relative peace together with very few rich people and a lot of middle class. It is very green there but the city did not put any significant money into developing the quarter for 30 years, they are only just starting to. Cheap housing is also a matter of architecture and this house features some interesting solutions: inspiring architecture, affordable

I did a test, trying to destroy a file by saving JPEGs as JPEGs six times in a row. But I still did not manage to destroy this super resiliant file taken with my D850. Either the algorithms got so much better, or my method was still not aggressive enough. Till today I thought JPEG with quality 5/12 *I*S* destructive in one throughput, but it seems not to be destructive enough to show kids krass JPEG artifacts after 6 throughputs. Strange.

A lot of reviews say 'Yes' especially for documentary and street work. And I can confirm the lens works great for that kind of shots but I was not yet able to test it and compare it to the Nikon 1.8 (nor could I find information where those two were compared), but personally I prefer a f/1.4 for a f/1.8.

Thanks Hugh. We have the Western Ghats to the east so we get some light before we see the sun. If we have some nice cloud cover then we can get some very cool reflected light. If I see a really nice sunrise, from my house on a hill, by the time I get my gear and take the jeep to a good vantage point the moment is gone. The only way I can do it is to leave when it is still dark and hope for good sunrise and skies. Works sometimes and not others.

Thanks for the link.
I tested the Voigtlander before, but didn't like it. For size I like the Nikkor 20/4 a lot more !! Also the optical quality.
There is no way to compare a f/3.5 and a f/1.4 lens :D
Actually it's very liberating to have such a small DOF wide open with a 20mm lens and that is very challenging.

I have always tried to get the birds sharp, but this proves that it is not always needed, very good picture.

The main reason for my being off the loop the last months is manifested here. A corner of the living room of my new apartment, with endless forests and snow-capped trees as a backdrop. Oh well.
No idea where the photogear is buried in the stacks of packing crates. I opened a small box at random and found a D500 and a Canon 35/2.8 TS in F-mount, used these to snap a picture of my current "living situation".
-
A room with a view ;)

Left my box ;)
From my office window. I then left the house to go around and shoot from the front but not as interesting , just white and yellow with no afternoon sun coming through the petals . a7rii 70-200 handheld from small step ladder. tomorrow I will post one with the Batis 135 f2.8 :)

Beautiful image Tom.
Never saw such a small Crocus, so late in the year. Nearly March. Anyway, during the day and the sun, they try to survive ;)

Hi John, thanks. I prefer yours :) . We do not have Crocus (at least I've never seen one in Goa).

Thanks all :) . This one is with Batis 135 f2.8 at f4. More light and different PP. This one has a bit more depth in the image but I prefer the PP in the first. I'll try to get closer and try some shorter FL's. John , I will try the 58 f1.4 on both the Df and a7rii. I'll start with the APO Lanthar 90 f3.5 and the go wider. My wife is complaining about the lack of flowers in the Jungle (our garden ;) )

Sadly there are now hydraulically operated machines available that can dig out whole trees out and transport them to new sites for transplanting.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/embed/1IV10M1RbEA?rel=0
This was filmed near Melbourne in Australia. The equipment is used by the local roading authority that my daughter works for - she is a projects engineer and director and this equipment has saved many trees from being destroyed.
Enjoy.

This can be done here as well, but that would have costed some factors more.

There was such a strong, almost electrical energy at this place. I tried to symbolize the current & flow in post production...

Last thursday I got a flight in the mountains for counting wild reindeers. When first up in a plane I also use the occasion for some other pictures, like this, of an avalanche in the glacier tongue Rembesdalskåka.

Frozen signs of spring.
Look at the bokeh of the 1.4/105E @f/5.6 in the near field. Looks very different, technical in comparison to the bokeh in the far field @f/1.4 with sometimes round, sometimes cat-eye shapes ... sharpness and detail rendering is top notch though.
