Who will be in?
Paco just writes:
"Granada is a great meeting point. Many interesting things very close, Alhambra, Gardens, Cathedral, Albaycin-Sacromonte, Sierra Nevada, the beach is 1 hour away...tapas come free with a beer for less than 3 euros :)
I´ll love for a NG get together to happen in Spain for sure.
I´m bury pretty much the year round but so are all of you. Taking in consideration time frame and the best season to come to Spain I will suggest the month of May."
And who wants help make it happen?
-
yes!
-
I'm all in.
-
Potentially yes - I'd love it, but subject to dates, duration and agreement with wife as I already have a trip to Skye planned for late April.
The sooner details emerge, the greater the chances for me.
-
Similar considerations ;)
-
How about we just say 5-12 May and work around this preliminary 7 day slot :)
-
Running by the river this morning I though about our discussion at Jakov's house about settling in the countryside (near Granada in this case) with a bunch of rental cars to be able to move all into the same hotel / huts / venue and be able to spend the time from breakfast to night together PLUS more than one option of adventure per day like we did in Scotland?
For me the week after would be much better: May 12 to 19.
I added a poll
-
Unfortunately (as always) I cannot participate. Hope you enjoy the meeting.
Maybe I'm looking forward to a small but intimate NG event here in Tokyo instead. ;)
-
Frank, failed to mention his idea of friends chipping in and buying a plane ticket for Akira to join us :)

Oh, that's so nice of you! Please save the money until I will be able to travel through Europe from Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, England, Scotland, Denmark, Finland and Norway!
-
Oh, that's so nice of you! Please save the money until I will be able to travel through Europe from Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, England, Scotland, Denmark, Finland and Norway!
Don't forget the region of former Yugoslavia, Greece, Cyprus, and Turkey :)

Don't forget the region of former Yugoslavia, Greece, Cyprus, and Turkey :)
Jakov, I'm planning to visit these countries during my SECOND visit. ;)
It is impossible to visit all these areas at once! And I want to visit North, Central and South Americas as well as South Africa! 8)

Akira, make sure you leave a Tuesday free for Belgium... ;D
Tom
Tom, thanks for the reminder. I should have mention as Benelux countries. :)
FWIW, I'll make sure I haven't forgot to mention India and other Asian countries!
-
Akira, keep it simple: visit me in Singapore, the whole world is here!

Akira, keep it simple: visit me in Singapore, the whole world is here!
Olivier, "you" make that statement sound very real!
-
What's all that without a visit to Greenland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands :D
-
Akira, make sure you leave a Tuesday free for Belgium... ;D
Tom
Thanks for thinking of us, Tom :)
-
That looks like a lot of interest ;)
I can help with arrangements and have my eye already in a country house with three bedrooms, kitchen, parking, olive trees and what not for a very nice price, 10 min drive from Granada. 8)
-
Paco, better start looking for an entire village. A three bedroom house is not going to cut it :)

with a mandatory stop in Guadalajara
Most definitely!
-
So true; Singapore is a great place (well I certainly like it). ;D But then so is Spain and Granada. ;D
Akira, keep it simple: visit me in Singapore, the whole world is here!
-
Granada not Grananda, must be hot even in May :)
-
Paco, better start looking for an entire village. A three bedroom house is not going to cut it :)
LOL
-
I'll be there in March - so will have a beer, glass of wine & tapas for you (make that several of each...................)
Enjoy - one of the prettiest places around!
-
I found this thread just now. Just four votes so far?!
Still planning for this meet up or is the topic as dormant as the poll right now?
I am very interested in this trip, but can‘t clearly commit to it yet.
Wishing everyone at Nikongear and all supporters a Merry Christmas!
Günther
-
yes. more commitment, please!
-
I'm interested too but I have a full week event at work in May which is not planned yet. I can't choose a date yet.
-
I will not come alone ;)
-
I'm looking forward to any date)(s) for which this event is taking place. An opportunity not to miss, for sure. Besides, strangely enough haven't been to Spain before and that must be rectified :D
-
My schedule is also open for the entire period :D
-
I will be very happy if this comes to be. Count me in for the meeting and anything related to help it to happen.
-
May 5th is best for me and my wife, will try to schedule it.
Would love to go to Spain again.
I guess we will get more information later at to where to fly to etc.
Norwegian have flights to Malaga from Copenhagen, will that fit with a hired car?
-
That will be the best option. Granada is a little over an hour drive from Málaga.
Edited in order to make sense ;)
-
;D ;D ;D ::)
Spain is different...

-
Paco: which airport is preferable? I want to book now
-
Any preferred hotel to use?
-
I'm aiming for 5-12 May. However before ordering anything, need to know our location and the nearest international airport :D
Paco: is there a small hotel or similar conveniently located for us?
-
Malaga is well connected,,, less than 300€
Car rental is affordable and I gess needed anyway ;)

Erik: OK. I might join you in CPH then. Have you booked airfare already?
-
Good plan - No bookings yet ;)
-
Gunver and I may join from CPH as well :)
Just need some information about a hotel or house big enough ;)
-
Erik and I are teaming up from CPH. Come on join us from there.
Paco hopefully assists with accommodation details.
-
Hi everyone,
yes, the preferable airport is Málaga. There is one closer in Granada but with very little traffic and usually more expensive.
Hotel accommodations are plenty and in a wide price range. I have asked for little hotels close to the center and Albaycin neighborhood -some 80 to 120 € for double room per night in May- and still waiting for an answer for small apartments that can be rented for the weekend. Will post more here soon.
Really to keep in mind are tickets to see the "Alhambra" they sell very fast and should be reserved as soon as possible.
Any more questions-suggestions please don´t hesitate to ask
-
Erik is the airfare ordering executive for the two of us so I lower my shoulders and relax :D :D the strenuous move out of Oslo should be well and truly over at that time and I certainly will be in need of a vacation then. Must shop some suitable summer wear though.
-
So a date has been set?
-
Yes ;D 5/5 to 12/5-2018 is by 60% as of today with 6 votes

It would be wonderful if the hotel or villa, had a large living room area where we all could be together in the evenings and good wifi ;D
-
Gunver and I will book the Norwegian flight 15:45 from CPH, but will go back on Friday with SAS.
Will book accommodation when we get more information.
-
Booked :)
I remember the troubles Bjørn and I had in Crete last time, so maybe just rent the car at the airport ???
Looking forward to this trip, hope Paco find a nice place for us

Absolutely. A big Air BnB or something to accommodate the whole group. Eight beds?
-
A friend of mine is from Spain. She runs a travel agency. Her sister lives just outside Granada. They look for a meeting house to accommodate the gang.

Wonderful. I did enjoy the day with you in Den Haag very much. Hope to see you and Martha in Spain!
-
I have spoken with the person in charge for f the last bnb. There is no one big enough to accomodate everybody but of course the group can split in two places. Will have more options this week plus Frank’s friend.

I am sure we find a space to host us all. Maybe a small castle or two neighbouring houses?
-
I reset the poll. It has served us well. We can delete it.

I deleted the poll per request.
By the way, I would need a single room for obvious reasons.

Hope you got a positive result :)

SECOND EDIT, changes in RED
My friend just called. She found a house with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, availability and price she will check today.
I will be in Granada Airport 5.5. at 1:30 p.m. and have a VW Polo/Seat Ibiza size car for 217€ for 8 days, including full waiver everything, second driver included. Sharing will be 55€ plus gasoline if we share with four, etc...
I will fly back from Granada on Sunday at 7 a.m.
-
Interesting, looking forward to more information.
Do we know how many there will participate?
We, Gunver and I will return on Friday, so we will need our own car.

Bent: I will also do a part time sharing if not enough full time sharers can be found.
But: I fly Granada, because it was much cheaper than Malaga in this case. Check option Iberica over Madrid (whomever this may concern)!
-
We are flying to and from Malaga.
-
Erik and I probably will be on the same airplane from CPH to Malaga.
-
Yes 15:45 from CPH :)
-
Any news on the Villa? ;D
-
No news on my side as of today
-
Any news on the Villa? ;D
Nothing from my friend or her sister yet
-
I have visited the Alhambra and Granada on many occasions . One of my favourite places in the world. I read "Tales of the Alhambra" when I was very young and drove over every time I was working in Rota (near Jerez) and often took my support team with me. I envy all that make the trip.
Have a great time.
Tom

Now we just need a place to stay ;)
-
my friend is sick in bed with a virus infection. She and her sister are still on it and try to find a good place. Last thing I heared was that they identified a four bedroom for bathroom place and try to get it for us.
-
I hope they will get well soon, the flu is very unpleasant :'(
-

Will 4 bedroms do it, some will have share ;) I will share with my wife, Gunver.
I count 7 persons at the moment, Bjørn want a single room, so it fits if the rest share rooms :)
Looking forward to meet you all.
-
I can share, I did share before. In Heidelberg we shared a bedroom with four. All good if the people are nice!
-
I would like to have my own room as well, I would say we need a bigger villa :)
No tickets booked or bought yet,,,
-
Bigger villa is not easy and two together is what I’m aiming for. Will keep updating info as it arrives.
Would you like for me to try to set some time shooting a dance class?
-
Shooting Paco's dance class. Me book ticket soon.
-
Tickets booked ;)
-
I can only recommend to check on direct flights to Granada. In my case these were cheaper and you save the 90 minute ride per direction to Malaga. Of course you milage may vary.
My traffic agent is still sick but at work again.
So we need two single rooms, two couple rooms and how many shared rooms?
-
That information will help a lot. I'm trying another agency as the present one is extra slow.
-
Yes, please do. Currently I'm at -20C with strong winds and really look forward to a change for a warmer climate :D
-
Pre-aprobed to take pictures during class. Will be in the morning (09:00 to 14:30, somewhere there) for modern class. Trying to add ballet and flamenco so you can choose.

Ortsbeschreibung

looks very much like it, yes
-
ok. my daughter is asleep I think Villa Emma seems to be the best option for photo folks:
https://www.booking.com/hotel/es/centro-emma.en-gb.html
-
I agree :D
-
;)
I am a confused about the numbering, but they all looks nice.
Get the biggest, with the nicest surroundings.
-
i wait for the rest. travel agency will be open from 10 to 13 tomorrow. We can finalize the booking then. I have a soecial insurance for all of my bookings so we are on the safe side.
~2000€/8 is not expensive for such a luxerious place per week
-
... I think Villa Emma seems to be the best option for photo folks:
https://www.booking.com/hotel/es/centro-emma.en-gb.html
They even offer ski facilities :D :D
-
Lots of double beds, will that work?
Ok for Gunver and I, but will it work for others?
-
I have the list like this:
Paco not staying overnight at the Villa
Bent + Gunver in one room
Bjørn one room
Frank one room
Jakov one room
Erik one room
So altogether 5 rooms, did I miss anyone?
Looks like two rooms has separate beds so there are still room for more ;)
-
so I will call my friend now and book the Villa Emma.
I pay in total and send payment details to participants.
-
done.
details follow
-
Frank please wait until we hear from Paco.
Just see now the Vila is 1 hour away from Granada!
-
Guys, If I’m reading correctly, Almuñecar is one our drive from Granada. That’s about how much I get from the message
Sorry, I completely didn't see this post Paco.
We should find something in Granada as agreed, I didn't realize the Villa was a one hour drive - That doesn't work!
-
Hi Frank
Vers good.
-
Frank please cancel the booking!
I don't think it will work, Paco is also busy that week - Not going to be there.
-
Paco thinks it is a good solution. He has to work all week and we have a set of amazing photo opportunities very near to the place we stay. We are very near to Granada compared to the Killin situation. We have a phantastic solution were we all can stay and do day trips like we did in Scotland.
-
Frank please wait until we hear from Paco.

I had a long phone conversation with Paco. But of course I can put the booking on hold. Paco thinks it is a great solution
-
we have the sierra nevada national park
we have a great place
we have the beach in walking distance
Granada is 46km over a scenic road "anazing view" sais Paco
-
.... and the price per person and week is the price for less than two nights in a hotel
-
booking is on hold.
wait for further instructions.
-
Yes let’s book it ;)
Follow the link and select the British flag for English ;)
I agree :D
Hi Frank
Vers good.
-
We are Going to Spain anyway, as the plane tickets are booked ;)
-
I had a long phone conversation with Paco. But of course I can put the booking on hold. Paco thinks it is a great solution
That was the first house, not the one in question, 45km is not far away ;)
-

sometimes decisions need a bit of time. We had that before and always found a solution everybody was happy with in the end. I am still convinced that Villa Emma is a next to perfect solution. I wait in awe.
-

whatever 45 or 46 we will see
-
Agree ;)
-
Agree ;)
PS. the first house was 72km from Granada. Villa Emma is 46km.
-
That looks like a lot of interest ;)
I can help with arrangements and have my eye already in a country house with three bedrooms, kitchen, parking, olive trees and what not for a very nice price, 10 min drive from Granada. 8)
is the 10 minute house still an option? it seems to small???
-
Thank you so much!
It would be wonderful if the hotel or villa, had a large living room area where we all could be together in the evenings and good wifi ;D
yes
-
I would like to have my own room as well, I would say we need a bigger villa :)
yes
-
I took a look at the ticket prices today (as promised), and I find them extremely expensive.
I am sorry I won't be able to join this time. 500+ EUR for an airplane ticket is just a rip-off.
Have a great time!
-

My thoughts exactly, adding all -up for 1 week cant afford, sorry!
-
Frank please understand I’m not going.
-
How many are left for this trip, do we need a smaller House?
Sad to see this :'(
-
Big changes in little time. Sorry to hear. Should we make a list again?
The proposed lodging is far away but in our conversation today with Frank he told in recent events people was taking up to two ours drive to different photographic opportunities. If so, this is a good option already on hold, just give me at least an extra week to get some more options before deciding.
There was some misunderstanding as it is definitely not walking distance from the beach.
If smaller place is needed there are more options. Still looking into small apartments close to each other and a couple of houses.
-
Gunver and I is still coming :)
Tickets for Malaga is booked.
-
I need a break and plan on coming. Perhaps I could join Gunvel and Bent for a hired car?
-
I need a break and plan on coming. Perhaps I could join Gunvel and Bent for a hired car?
That is ok, but we leave on friday from Malaga, must be posible
-
I have booked tickets for a flight with Norwegian from Oslo to Malaga, with a stopover in Copenhagen, on May 5th. Thus we'll arrive simultaneously in Malaga.
For the return trip, I'll go with Gunvel and Bent to Malaga on the 11th. Not decided on the return flight(s) yet, perhaps I'll stay a day or two in Malaga before flying home on the firstcoming Monday. Or maybe I'll go to Copenhagen to visit Erik and my middle brother who is married to a Danish girl.
-
Good, we will then hire a car in Malaga, big enough for 3 of us and the luggage.
Who else is still going?
-
Frank probably?
-
Gunver and I is still coming :)
Tickets for Malaga is booked.
I am coming. I would even go alone to meet Paco, whom I will also meet in Düsseldorf later this month. In my case tickets to Granada were much cheaper than tickets to Malaga. I am looking forward to meeting Bjørn again, very happy and I am looking forward to see Bent & Gunvel for the first time.
I also hope that the nice people from Austria who always came to the past meetups make up their minds and join us. What about US folks?
Frank
-
Frank probably?
I booked a flight directly into Granada & a car with second driver option. So if someone else likes to join me, we will have all options. I will fly also from Granada on Sunday morning.
If Bjørn writes a round mail also to those who did not read the forum lately, there might be some more people joining in. We had some non-regulars join our meetups in earlier cases and it was also fun to meet them!
-
Ok, That makes us at least 5. I am also looking forward to meet Frank and Paco, we had the pleasure of Bjørn’s company in Crete, looking forward to hear about the great move.
The house may not need to be that large, hope your friend can find something for us.
-

If we are only five there are many more options. The bigger the group the more difficult to find accomodation for all.
-
I've now booked my return flight from Malaga to Copenhagen on the 11th. Meaning I'll join Gunvel & Bent on their flight.
Will team up with Erik in Copenhagen :D
-
Our retur flight is SK6202 is yours the same?
-
Is there any new regarding the housing?
Any new members that want to participate?
-
I´m going to see a couple houses this weekend. They are dead center in old Granada, with its pros and cons. As now I´m asking for 6-7 people with 2 single rooms. Please tell me if there is any change on number or preferences
-
Gunver and I still need a double room :)
Parking, is that possible if in the center of the city?
-
I see me, Bjørn, Gunver, Bent. Which makes 4 with 2 cars. Originally Erik and Jakov wanted to come. Anybody else?
City center? I am not so sure if this is best for hiking and nature photography. Country life with quiet sleeping places and visiting cities if necessary seems more appealing to me
-
Noted. I’ll keep looking
-
There is a possibility of a house with three diferent bedrooms with double bes -one, on top, overlooks the big common place- plus one portable bed, confy sofá and a possible extra single 90 cms wide bed.
It is located 10 min outside Granada and has plenty of parking inside the land -a few olive trees and barbecue if I´m not mistaken-
It is available from the 5th to the 12th and the owner has no problem to add an extra day.
Price will be 250€ / week. Grand total.
As it is outside the city and from a private owner, it has no internet. If you want a phone-shared conecction with around 10gb can be easily arranged.
10 min to Granada and 5-7 min to the main highway to go anywhere.
I keep on looking and should have at least a couple more options after the weekend.
I´m out of the city from tomorrow so, if there is interest, pictures can be taken from monday the 1st
Looking forward to meet you all!

For me that sounds super great. I'd like to book it right away!
-
If only Frank, Bjørn, and Gunver+me with are to sleep in the house, the 3 bedrooms should suffice.
It might be nice to try a week without internet :o
The price is low, so the extra costs of adding a phone based internet will be ok.
How about bathrooms?
Any pictures?
Sounds nice.
Br Bent and Gunver
Edit
We hope that all necessities are included, as bed linen etc.
-
Agree with Bent. We shall survive, in particular if we can arrange a makeshift connection via phone.
-
Then if most of my questions are positively answered, I think we should rent the house
-
Just returned from 7 weeks in Spain (Andalucia). Envious of you being in Granada and area - amazing scenery. A photog's paradise!
ENJOY
-
Monday the 2nd I´ll be back in Granada and can arrange to take some pictures and answer your questions.
-

One bathroom
All necesities included
One double bed -open room over the big space, my favorite by the way), one 105cm, one 90 cms and one fold able
Pictures on the way from owner but haven´t arrived yet.
I´m more concern about tickets to go see "Alhambra" as they sold out very quick.
Let me know your opinions, suggestions or concerns
-
I just need a bed to lie in and a door to close for some privacy. Otherwise I'll make do with most contingencies.

I and Gunver have the whishes, a door is important.
We would like to visit Alhambra.

That looks interesting and it is a good price. Most of the locations a have been looking at are for 1000 to 2000€.
Sorry for the delay but agencies are veeeery slow. If by the end of the week I don´t have any more viable options a decision will have to be made for piece of mind.
Always looking forward to meet you all

It is the same house as in Franks link to Airbnb but the Airbnb is cheaper :o

it is also on airbnb the house, same house, see my second link
look at the first option on airbnb too. very nice with pool
-
Yes I saw that see my edited post
-
both seem great options. one more darkish romantic the other more exposed and bright. both good for me
-
Parking is only mentioned in one of them!
Otherwise both will do.
-
First one looks better. Huetor is not pretty but close to Granada. You can park and take a bus or taxi to see the city and is close to the highway to go anywhere else. If my counts are correct is 5 of you coming? Bjørn requested a private room so 3 rooms with a double bed will do. That´s what I´m looking at as well.
-
Finding a place for a week, with three double bedrooms, appears to be a very complex logistical problem (187 posts, spread over nearly 7 months). If successful, I suggest you call it “Operation Overlord” 😉

OK, enough.
A lot of uncertainties regarding attendance and locations have been dealt with. Transgender issues came into the equation along the way as well. A solution appears to be found.
Devote further posts to the topic at hand.

Which of the two houses would you prefer?
Can we book then?

I follow the majority. You can choose. No strong feelings for either alternative, except the availability of parking space is beneficial of course.

Gunver and I vote for the dark but cosy house with the parking possibilities.
Yes book please :)
-
5 including you, so yes 3 rooms should do :)
Frank, Bjørn, Gunver, Paco and me
Then is 4, you should not count me for lodging as I live here.
-
Yes I know ;)
Looking forward to meet you.
-

-

Booked & payment information sent. I am happy that we will meet in person (again)

It looks like a fun gethering of NG, as always.
I cannot join you, but wish you enjoy it and am looking forward to seeing the results!
-
Alhambra, do we need to get tickets in advance, if yes how long time before?
Gunver and I are interested, any others?
-
As of yesterday official tickets are sold out until June. There still the option of a guided your if I’m not mistaken.
-
The two times I visited the Alhambra, I did not have pre-purchased tickets. I was told by locals that there was no way I was getting in. I went anyway & stood in the very left line (which was the shortest, also) and managed to get tickets for the day I was there.
Buena suerte
-
At what time did you go to the line for tickets?
-
As I recall, about an hour or so before the time allowed in for the afternoon.
-
We could give it a try ;)
Their home page is not encouraging.
-
Now the NG gathering is close, looking forward to meet you all.
The weather forecast calls for some indoor activities, any chance that we can get to photograph at the dance studio?
Br Bent

bring rain coats. I am weather proof as is Bjørn
-
Birna doesn't like rain. Triggers her asthma.
I had hoped to escape my bleak and dreary weather at home into the sunny Mediterranean climate?

Weather forcast for Bonn is hot & sunny

We must use all our willpower to think about sun ;)
Otherwise it seems we are going in the wrong direction, the weather forecast for Copenhagen is also fine for next week :o

weather forcasters do not make the weather and sometimes send out wrong predictions
-
We'll see soon enough. I put a light rain coat in my luggage besides the summer dress. Hopes are for the latter to be appropriate attire. And add a couple of books just to be on the safe side.

Hi everyone. Looking forward to meet you.
Weather is impredictable this time of the year. Will see day by day. How long a drive will be practical for a day trip? Just to have some options.
Taking pictures of a dance class, rehearsal and maybe a show (there is such this thursday) maybe arranged. It is a school but interesting anyway. You have already seen images from some students.
Albaycin and Granada are very nice, there are hamman, cathedral, interesting neighborhood and what not.
See you tomorrow?

I am sheduled to be in Granada Airport by midday Saturday.
The Norvegians will arrive late in the evening and have a 90 minute drive.
So after check in we could have a late lunch / coffee / Hi Tea and connect with the Malagan incomings later by telephone. Only wine drinking will not be if I have to drive a car afterwards.
Sun? Rain? I do not mind. For a great photo opportunity / landscape / cultural event I might drive two hours one way, but I prefer less.
There will be a lot to discover in Granada alone. Architecture, Eateries, Vinothekas, Bodegas, historic places, gardens, people, street portraits.
And we see you and your wife and your dance company
-
Looking forward to meet you all, I agree with Frank about the the travel time, but hope that Granada will provide many good photo opportunities.
Glad to hear that a dance session may be possible.
