Wonderful light. I love colours & composition of the first picture.

Tom, which lens have you used? It's got a great and smooth rendering of the out of focus areas.

Tom, I like the somewhat cold lighting as the prelude to the early autumn.

Thank you all for your nice comments.

Jakov - The lens I used was the 300 2.8 G VR1. It does render the background nicely especially when you take the shot at minimum focusing distance and the light is not too hot. The 400 2.8 G is even better but that lens is massive and requires more careful planning because as I get older, my fear is that I'll drop it when I go into the field. I bought both lenses a few years ago for birds but do that less these days and am enjoying flowers and other things instead. These telephotos also work for people pictures of all sorts. Fun lenses!

I really like #1. The use of a telephoto, 105~200~300 progressively allows the photographer selection of the background. Even when well blurred as here selection can be quite important. I think this image can be strengthened if cropped to a square. The colors and background blurring is great.

I like #2. I'd crop it just a touch none on the bottom, some on the top, just a touch on the sides. Again the background is great.

A very nice series!

Thanks David and Grahame.

David, I agree with about the crop on picture number two but not number one. I had thought about correcting the second one before I posted it but my pleasure in discovering the similarity between Goldenrod and Sideshow Bob from "The Simpsons" must have washed it from my mind. Are you a Simpson's fan? I most certainly am. If you don't know Sideshow Bob, google him and see if you see the similarity. It now makes me laugh whenever I see this plant in flower.

absolutely love the colour and saturation that comes to images with light from this time of the day. Very nice work to see and record this so faithfully.

Thanks Mongo. The colors seem to change at the end of the day especially when the gloaming imbues the scene with its strange and beautiful light.
