Title: Eclipse, Eastern Oregon
Post by: pluton on August 25, 2017, 06:52:34
This is a realistic impression of what it looked like(w/18mm lens on D800) just as totality was ending:

Amazing!  The sun is tiny but its presence is big enough to tell how unusual and mysterious the total eclipse was.

I had heard about the "sunset effect" during an eclipse but this is the first photograph I have seen which shows it effectively — and you also chose a perfect place, with that pretty tree and a clear view of the horizon, from which to take the shot.

Keith: it is certainly a privilege to know you. Exceptional take on the topic. Great concept & Execution. Did you leave the Fuji Path for a D800?

Keith, well done.  A quite difierrent solar eclipse image but quite delightful - in no way cliched, as some in my old astronomy text books were.

Thanks you for sharing your image, it gives as you say a more realistic view on how things looked at that moment

Very nice, the wide view works very well indeed.

In 1999 I drove from The Netherlands to the north of France in order to see the full eclipse over there, only to find a fully clouded sky. It became spooky dark during the eclipse, and it started to rain. Only after the deed the clouds partly disappeared so the last coverage could be seen.  >:(

Thanks for all the kind comments!
Frank, the little Fuji XE-1 was deployed on the rear of a Nikkor 300mm/4 AF-S, but I goofed on pre-setting the focus and and the shots are soft.

An unusual but striking image of an eclipse.

Nice work, Keith!

I ended up meeting up with another person (not NG) somewhat farther west.  Most of my photo efforts failed but I'll post something later.  Glad you made it to your site OK.

A very nice image that actually captures the mood during the eclipse.
