Title: South Dakota 2017
Post by: Anirban Halder on July 24, 2017, 04:41:05
Earlier this month I was on a short vacation in South Dakota - fifth least populous state of the 50 United States.
In short, South Dakota = Vast Emptiness, Open Prairie, Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Black Hills, some native American history and lots of Harley Davidson.

#1. Some say the drive to South Dakota (from Minneapolis) is very boring. Didn’t seem that way to me.

Anirban, I am amazed by the landscapes and your photos!

I will had happily cruise those lands with my bike too.
Very american: "smoke free.." and the flag. Nice seem and presented
There is something extra to that shot with the umbrella. People lost in an alien landscape with a colorful cover. The contrast is striking.

Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the jackelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

This is what I hear in my ears each time I look at these photographs.

Thanks for posting!

Dave

Lovely set of images Anirban, and David's poetic response seems entirely consistent with your interpretations of this state.

***********************

Looking at the Mt Rushmore image (#24) reminds me that on our TV this evening was a news clip reporting that some of the current US President's supporters want to see his his image up there with the first four............

Thank you David. Glad you like them.

Dave H - that poem is very appropriate. Thank you.

Hugh - it was eve of July 4th and I came across many supporters of current US president on the streets of South Dakota.  ::)

#25. Ethanol plants. Common sight along the highways. South Dakota is the sixth leading ethanol-producing state in the nation.
