SENTAKU CONFIRMS: Japanese Government Trying to Partner Nikon with Fujifilm … Says TOP Japanese Magazine “Sentaku” :)
Earlier today I shared the news, that a Japanese blogger and avid Sentaku Magazin reader said Nikon is in huge trouble, and is looking for investors. I also said that, since Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean companies are interested, the Japanese government is now moving, to try to keep Nikon in Japanese hands.
It created quite a buzz (and shitstorm… but I’m kind of used to them ;) ), so let me take a bit of time to explain it again:

Perhaps Akira-san will have some comment.

I don't subscribe the magazine, and cannot read the whole article. But the title of the quoted article says that the Economic Planning Agency of Japan and Mitsubishi Tokyo UFJ Bank (the main bank for Nikon) are encouraging Fujifilm Holdings to purchase or merge with Nikon.

What is your opinion of a Nikon merge with Fuji, or an outright purchase of Nikon by Fuji? What do think Nikon's opinion is?

I haven't seen any official comment or reaction from Nikon yet.
Apparently Nikkei, the leading Japanese newspaper specializing in economy, doesn't mention anything about this news.

this is just a proposition, doesn't mean anything until it has been signed. very common in the business world :o :o :o
-
Could be an interesting merge though, and they could relabel the X-T2 as a Nikon Sf or something along those lines, so I wouldn't have to switch camera manufacturers after 25 years of Nikon
-
Even if not true it is an interesting thought. Nikon is a money losing venture, Fuji actually earns money selling eqipment and are as far as I know the only company to do so.
Sony earns money selling chips, their cameras lose money.
