Frank, thanks for the comment!

I'm pretty sure that the lady plant the Althaeae on her own.  But for any reasons, people around the area are looking forward to these flowers flourishing every year.

Thanks for the link.  The concept is great.  But growing flowers and putting flower pots where everyone can appreciate is a more simple and intimate way to release the unnecessary tension in the society.

a beauty, Buddy!

Thank you Frank. This was all a bit experimental. Trying to create a landscape by deliberately picking the background bokeh in a way that reminded me most of Japanese monochrome ink paintings from the Muromachi period. To further this I used hardly any PP and only cropped a minimal amount (had I used a 55mm f1,2 Ai no cropping would have been nescessary due to a shorter MFD)

I had a job, a 56 year old man wanted to become a Christian.

So there was a ceremony involving water, olive oil, a candle and white linen.

Later we went to the country side to meet friends who have just adopted a third son. Very nice after noon. Children's portraits

I went there to try the new lens and see how it performs in a real situation. Light was horrible -as usual :)- but the subjects didn´t move much being at the "barre". Will have investigate more before taking it to work. AF is slow for action and nailing the focus at full throttle is not easy at all.

Fons, I love the composition on that one. The colors and texture of the wall offset to the color and texture of the grains really complement each other in this image of contrasts

On the less important, technical side of the story, I do get the impression that the 10.5mm fish eye on crop is not as sharp off center as the 16mm f3,5 on full frame

California, near San Francisco. We had a very wet winter, but now is the time for all to dry out. This is just the normal seasonal pattern. Grasses turn golden and crunchy.

Thanks Armando.  The little bag contains a small part of the total map, that needs to be constructed. Only a block of houses divided by streets. As Tilburg has an organic growth, the blocks are never identical; the city's map is a kind of spider's web, linked together with triangle plaza's with a distance of 4.000 Roman foot between each other.

Today I interviewed some  of the people who picked up a bag. The intention is to 'follow' a few builders during the process of building.

83 year old Cees van den Hoek agreed to participate  (The location is the public library by the way)

John, I did not know you had a copy of the 5,8cm f1,4 Nikkor-S. Lovely lens with a unique rendering compared to anything in the Nikkor lineup. Reminds me a bit of the Carl Zeiss Biotar 58mm f2.

To quote the lyrics from a Placebo song:

A friend who'll tease is better

And makes for stormy weather"

Yes I agree. I like the lens very much; was lucky to find a late, mint and Ai'd sample.  It's wide open better (central sharpness and bokeh) than the Voigtlander 58/1.4  and strangely enough also much better then the later 50/1.4's

Get well soon Frank. Either that, or get an airconditioner. It's no fun lying in bed with the temperatures we have these days. I only hold on to sanity by staying outdoors until the light is gone (and Anouk needs to be in bed)

John, thank you for your insight in the 5,8cm vs. the Voigtlander. I thought long and hard about buying the Voigtlander, because I'm looking for a more modern fast 50mm' ish lens to use for subjects I would not want to photograph with the 55mm f1,2, or subjects I want to explore beyond my ordinary repertoire of tricks (not many of those around, but as the saying goes: Verandering van spijs doet eten. Thanks Fons !
In english, variety is the spice of life)
I understand, very wise ;).  Perhaps the word 'better' is not correct, it's subjective too. The Voigtlander and the 5.8cm are two different lenses but somehow have some similarity.

The plane of focus is very thin with the Voigtlander which makes focus wide open very crucial, comparable with the f/1.2 lenses.   The corners are better with the Voigtlander were the 5.8cm  corners are weaker, but wide open, that is not so very important for me. A good part of 'vignetting' fits the lens. To my surprise focus with the 5.8cm is very easy. Both lenses are super sharp all over the frame from f/2.8 onwards.  But the Voigtlander  filter thread of 58mm is not so very convenient, giving less satisfactory results with the 3T and 4T

Still very dry.

According to our city-beekeeper it's a bad year of the Lime (Linden) blossom honey.  The blossom dried and did not give much nectar for the bees. Hopefully the heather honey will be better, my favourite because it is not so sweet.

Normally this field is as green as grass....

I do a lot of slide scans currently. This one I took yesterday and edited it.

The Eastern side of the wall

Shortly after the Berlin Wall fell I visited the famous "Glienicker Brücke". The concrete rolls are part of the ex wall, the "Trabant" car is the sign of the east, the side where I stand taking the picture, the bridge is what I focussed on. Slide scan with D600 and Buddy's contraption! Original Pjhoto taken with my FM-2n and the 1.4/50 Ai

Focusing screen installed in the d700. What a wonderful experience! I was able to focus yesterday with the 58mm 1.4 fully open in dim light. Using it today with the 105mm 2.8 @ 5.6... I had to use one of the clear frames to adjust for a slight back focus but everything is ok so far. The whole conversion, at 3am, sleepy and whithout experience took just a few minutes.
Sorry for the crappy phone shot, I hope it gives you an idea.

John, makes sense now. As said, I'm looking for a 50'ish mm lens I do not yet have an equal of.

I'm selling my 5cm f2 Nikkor-S, 50mm f1,8 Ai-S and will only keep my 50mm f1,4 Nikkor-S, 55mm f3,5 micro Nikkor and 55mm f1,2 as standard lenses, but do consider adding a further lens in that range which then needs to offer something the other 3 do not do bette or equally good.

Frank, loving the slide scans. I'm glad to see you put that ES-1 to good use.

55mm f1,2 Nikkor-S.C

Our neighbors celebrate Corpus with great effort. I did take photos of that every year.

Here I do not see typical Corpus elements, more general typical Catholic elements, these are shown wonderfully

You are right. The "incensiario" -google translates it as "censer"- is not specific for Corpus but a common element as there are the tunic, etc.

   Thank you Frank

It is the mobile home for the holy bread and the special clothing, the flower bouquets and altrars along the procession pass that define the event.

As soon as I get to It I might open a Corpus thread. The neighbors create flower mandalas every year

The pride of the city are the special bike routes through out the entire city, usually also bike-only, so the fastest way for transportation.

Was just focussing on the 'geraniums' with the 10mm wide of the Sigma 10-20 and didn't see any bikers, until I heard something and pushed the shutter...

I heard the mum ask her daughter 'Did you smile for the photo'?   ;)

Sometimes you must be lucky with a press-conference. City Bulding is in renovation; you never can guess what will be the location, the positions and the light source. The conference was mainly for the written press and luckily a very informal setting.

85/1.8K is a great lens by the way. This was shot at f/2.0

You are not alone! While we are both excellent cooks, my wife takes those duties in exchange for me doing the cleanup chores. 2 loads for the dishwasher is not an uncommon daily occurrence here for the 2 of us, and if we have guests 4 loads is to be expected. Rarely, do I face just 1 dishwasher load per day.    :o
