Went out just before sunset and tried to get some interesting pictures from a place nearby. It's difficult to get inspired by places you know well, at least that's what i think.
Location: 51.338439, 5.270225
First two images have been shot from nearly the same spot, just turned around for different images. The small pond/brook is actually used by some cows ("wild" cows) for drinking. The last one effectively looking back at the first spot (you can't see it, it's behind the distant tree line).
Let me know whether you like the images or what you think could be improved. Thanks

Reviving this thread, even though it never got traction. I intend to keep this updated once in a while, like the very nice thread by John Geerts about the Regteheide (which is a different place than this one, link: https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=806.msg6819#msg6819 (https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=806.msg6819#msg6819)).
There were some wild fires lately and some of the area got burnt. Fortunately not (by a long mile) as severe as some other wild fires around the world, yet quite some damage to this little nature park. Some images to show the scorched earth and the vigilance of nature coming back up again. These were shot around the same area as the first 2 pictures that started this topic.

It's true that it is worth visiting and i do. I find it very hard, however, to "create" compelling photos here, as the environment is quite cluttered (forest area) or empty (heather area).

3 years old thread which I never saw. Good idea to post it again and completing with new shots.
I think the fires might be just maintenance in order to limit Gorce invasion and so get more grass for cattle.
This is an annual practice here in the New Forest (South England) where horses, donkeys, cow are free.
I agree with John and Fons about getting nice images on a flat landscape.

@John: indeed, the absence of pittoreske buildings, or grand vistas sometimes makes things more challenging.
@Francis: these were actual wild fires, not controlled ones to invoke nature renewal, even though nature doesn't care about that and rejuvinates regardless.

I am glad you revived the series, Hans. It must be a wonderful place to walk around without people.
My favourites are the last one in the first series and the second one in your second series. That second one is almost Vermeer-like with the clouds and the sun on the tree. The branches in the foreground are nice leading lines to the tree too. Great catch!

It indeed is really nice without (or at least much less) people out. The place is quite small and can feel crowded really quickly. Usually, i'd like to go there for sunrise. Also way less people ;D

To my eyes, the images look a bit over-sharpened. The images finely detailed from corner to corner are great, but I feel that the over-sharpened images may lack the sense of pleasant atmosphere which the place should offer.

I've been enjoying this series. One has to periodically get away from human-created shapes and forms. I like the processing choices on the recent ones best.

I am (try to be) very careful with sharpening and only apply a very moderate amount at output (i use capture one and there is also some input sharpening). I'm really interested, because i'd like to avoid that over-sharpened look.

At least to my eyes, the fine details of the grasses and twigs look in general a bit too sharp. But that might be because the high-res image files from D810 is dramatically resized in order to post here.

2. Ah, there they are, but now on the other side of the water. They were very apprehensive of me, as i had left the foot path.
3. Sun almost set.
4. Big vista with wispy cloud, gives quite a good view of how much larger the little lake should have been. Everything should be under water, as would i. 17 image pano.
5. Same wispy cloud, some moments later, from slightly different vantage point. 3 image, bracketed pano (9 images total).
I hope you like these.

It was sort of "dangerous", since i was only wearing hiking shoes and i was precariously standing on a grass pol to not sink in the wet bottom beyond my ankles :D

Well ... went back to my beloved Cartierheide. Much because i saw John Geerts post some lovely heather shots from Regteheide. I wanted to see whether the heather was blooming here as well. Even though the name heide suggests there is lots of heather (because it means heather), not so much to be found. Probably the dry times last year didn't help that.
Anyway, managed to find some 'new' shots. Also the sunset was kinda nice.

Really enjoyed your mushroom collection. I find fungi a very fun fall subject, gets me walking around the woods even more than usual. In Michigan we are blessed with countless woodland trails, esp. in the north, so lots of opportunities . I like them all, but the second one made me smile, reminds me of a large clam.

Randy, Francis, thanks, the shape is exactly what drew me to this one. It was hidden from the path, when i moved into the shrub to photograph the fallen ones (1st one) i saw this particular one. Got some strange looks from passers by ;D

Akira, all of these are focus stacks. rather deep stacks i might add. Ranging between 30 and 75 image deep.
Paco, i had my camera upside down hanging from the tripod (reversed centre column), especially for the 3rd i had the top of the camera buried in the dirt (remember it was upside down). It was exactly my idea to give the gnome in the woods feeling with these.

Been out again to my favourite area nearby. Dreary weather, but alas, had to shoot something as i haven't been out for a while. I did get a little bit of a sunset at the closing moments :D

Ok, so we had some snow in the NL. I went on the morning after the snowfall and almost missed the snow. There was still some around, but by the afternoon every bit of snow had melted away.
Went to the other side of this area than i usually enter for a (minute) change of scenery.
These are not portfolio images nor wall hangers, but i like the second one myself. Interested to hear your thoughts.

I' like to add "ish" to "winter", just a couple of hours of snow doesn't a winter make. The road coming into the parking lot was snow covered when i arrived in the morning (7 ish), but snow had already left that road when i returned approx. 9.30. So much for winter :o. Perhaps there is some more winter coming this coming weekend, fingers crossed ;D

So, we received the first sub zero temperatures throughout the NL for the first time in almost 2 years. Just a few below, but anyway.
Of course, i dragged myself out of bed early on the Sunday morning, to my usual "hide out".
1. "Alpen glow", pre-dawn glow on a cozy embrace. An exposure blend to get detail in the moon.
2. Part of the "cow highway" around the little lake (looking away from the water), the path the (semi-wild) cows in the area take to get to the water.
3. "Entanglement", fronzen detail of said cow highway.
4. Ice structure
5. "Lost branch", i helped it onto the ice ;D
Interested to hear what you guys think.

Thanks Akira, it's poetic in a way. I didn't mean to, but if you look closely, the side branches seem to have leaves under the ice. This is nice, but totally incidental, as i kinda pushed the little branch further onto the ice in a random way.

As someone from a temperate climate, it is nice to still see some ice in these climate changing times. (Less so I acknowledge for those in non-temperate northern & southern climes.)

Yes, the moon was a special treat on an otherwise blah morning. It was as cold as it looks and i hadn't dressed properly. I was expecting weather like in the first image ::)
After a while, the sunrise added some colour to the sky (and therewith the mist) and that gives that atmosphere.

I've been back there, but this time not such great light unfortunately. Still showing some shots, at least there is more water in the pond then in some of the other images earlier in this thread.
First one with a tiny bit of colour in the sky, the other ones during blue hour.

It pays viewers I think to flick from your three recent blue hour images back to your three previous golden hour set of images from May - what great contrasts in their look - especially the (same) last tree in each of the three images in the two sets.

I'm "just" trying to create a record of my little nature area, much like what you've been doing with Regteheide. Fot that purpose, it seems fitting that the light is not always beautiful in a traditional sense ;)

Well, as you could guess, i've been at it again. This time because the heather is in bloom. While in earlier years there wasn't much blooming heather due to drought, this time it's much better.
Went out early morning, got some nice views and some early morning mist. The light actually got better somewhat later in the morning.

The spiders sure have been busy. I also liked the mist catching the early morning glow. There was a bit more than maybe is apparent in these images. The tree in #1 is part of multiple sets earlier in this thread, so you can compare and see that the mist hid the background nicely this time (there is a whole forest in the background).

Another installment, i keep boring you all with my pictures of this little nature area close to me. This time some early autumn colours and some 'shrooms. Also, for the first time in this thread, the gate through which i enter the actual fenced area (where the 'wild' cows roam).

I must say i personally like the light in the last one as well. I saw it when on my way back to the car. Such light happens only in this time of year, because of the edge of the forest (out of picture) over which the sun has to shine, in summer is gets too high and harsh much too soon, in winter it doesn't get over the edge in this position.

Inspired by John Geerts' recent post of an afternoon at Regte Heide (https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=806.75;topicseen), i'm posting my images of the Cartierheide from the same afternoon.
I went out for a walk in the area with my wife and we had beautiful and changeable weather. When i decided to head back with my camera gear, (unfortunately) the weather had decided to change to more sunny and blue sky type. Anyway, still some mood left.
Hope you enjoy these as i've enjoyed John's images.
Oh ... and i decided to leave the planes in some of the images. It happens to be a fact of life here, being so close to Eindhoven Airport :(

Very nice images indeed, worth to visit this area at some point ;)When using leaves or 'other' up close to blur the foreground I use the old mantra; Get closer - As close as possible to really blur them out completly

For me, especially the mood of the last one is something that i haven´t seen often in this area. I mean, with the moon being out, but still the last remainder of sunset touching the birch tree.

Agree. The inclusion of the moon shot is a good reminder of how a scene changes in the low light hours and the opportunities that this presents.

Went back last weekend and found my little area in some juicalicious fog. Arrived before sunset, heather being past its peak i had to "pull out" the purple colours a bit in post ;)

Back again with another installment. Went out when we received some snow sometime ago. Difficult conditions, but beautiful.

The lone tree shot is very nice!,
I would recommend a crop to the bottom to have less grass, I would suggest to have same amount and grass above and below the tree at the root.

I'll have to give the crop suggestion a go in my editing software, i usually crop by feel and this felt good to me.
