Rainy and dark, cold day.
The month of May is the month of Maria. In this 15th century chapel there is a special devotion for Maria for the statue which is the goal for pilgrimage since the 18th century. (I never saw such an ugly Maria statue)!

Where is Maria?
This is the Hasseltse Kapel in Tilburg, Fons.
Maria is inside, Frank. ;) It was too crowded in the chapel with praying people. I will make the detailed shot of the statue at a later time when the chapel is empty.

The 105E I liked from the beginning, I use it as often as possible. Wonderful lens, very versatile.
The only thing is that I bought a lot of very nice lenses in the past two years and although I shoot a lot I feel the lenses do not get enough workout.
I recently aquired the 4/300PF, the 1.4/58G, said 105E and the 1.8/20G.
I still love the 1.4/24G and the 1.4/35 Ai-S very much and use the 60G Micro and 200 Ai-S Micro for food, plus there is the Sinar Equipment.
So a lot of glass and always little time to shoot and develop...

-
Bjørn, this is a beautiful closeup of magnolias. Did you really use AF-S 24/1.8G? I used to have one, and am sure that has seven aperture blades that should yield 14 light rays from the sunstar. The sunstar in this image has eight light rays...
Paco, this is a nice color composition!
-
Akira: yes, I used the AFS 24 mm f/1.8 G. In fact, all photos with the D500 (yesterday) were acquired with that lens.
The front element was quite dusty, so I got a lot of unwanted reflections on many of the frames. However, this one came out clean. Apparently the nano coating can work wonders once in a while, like it does with the 20/21.8 G.
I used f/16 for the Magnolia capture, by the way.
PS: some of the other Magnolia picture came out with 14 defined sun rays. No idea why there is such a difference using the same aperture setting and lens. DS
-
Bjørn, thanks for the details. It is really strange, but that wouldn't degrade the image!
-
Great shot, Bjørn !

Welcome to May. We've had GOK how many cubic miles of rain in the past month and everything is flooding. The South Nation river, which you can just barely make out in the first picture, is a highly meandering stream draining a particularly flat bit of the Ottawa River Valley. Most, but not all, of its watershed is farmland. Luckily, most people have sense not to build beside it, for the reason shown. This temporary lake just happens to be a minute's flying time from the '94 landslide that got me started in aerial photography in the first place. Go South Nation!
The Ottawa River itself is full of photos like the second. The trailer park *was* built on the river-side of a wetland(ish) area, the actual bank is a few hundred meters past the top of the photo. Predictable results.
And, yes, it was snow today and not rain.

Yesterday a horrible studio session. Out of gamut outfit in front of my super classical backgrund inspired by Lucas Cranach. White balance and Exposure were fully confused, even on the D500. Lens change meant only more confusion. The child was pure movement. Hours of editing behind me and a lot of hours to go. Looking forward to my new studio with more space and a permanent installation instead of temporary improvisation.
Very interesting: White balace was much more stable on the D600 with the 105E that with any other combination!
So today I met father and child in "normal" clothing on the street. Much better. A refreshing experience!

Today I found that the 14E converter stripped of glass by Erik is most useful on the 300PF. I also tried the 105E and the Neo-Noct, but these are not as useful and/or flexible shooting near fields. Neo-Noct is also very nice but not as flexible.
Vanitas was the trial (find a series in my portfolio, follow link in signature):

Yes, I agree. The white Balance of the D600 is very consistent.
I do not agree. The white balance of the D600 depends quite a lot on the lens used. With the 105E and The 300PF it works very well, not so much with the Neo-Noct. The D500 is more lens independent I feel.

Sorry, you are wrong here. In the heat of the summer sun the effect of beer is greatly increased. Goes very well together if your way home is not too far .... Hahaha

Today I bought a book for a friend's birthday.
The very nice Irish girl working in the bookstore was discussing cultural differences between Irish and German people. While we were doing so a German rearranged my bike I had parked in front of the shop to align it with the border between pedisteranian and bike strip. Very German. Look at this:

Absolutely no need to ask - look at how the colours of the bin lids are arranged! ;D
However I don't think that there is a German living behind the second ground level window in the image.
(Personally I find that in a world where "near enough" is all too frequently "good enough", I feel that some semblance of order can be refreshing.)
Remarkable. :)

Thomas, it doesn't look like you are struggling much... Great competition with those blobs of color.
Fons, precious. Extra nice touch with the separation of the profile at the back with the black background vertical line.

Thanks, Paco!
I didn't dare to show the full flowering poppies. Couldn't get the color right, a certain saturated orange.
Seems there is a need to underexpose for great red / orange reproduction. About 1 , maybe be 1 1/3 stops. Like sometimes one needs to push +1 to 1.3 stop(s) for white.
-
It did happen to me too. I had to underexpose some orange flowers and de-saturated them in post as they were too much. I have shared some of them here already.
