Title: NikonPro / GoPro
Post by: RonVol on January 13, 2017, 11:11:49
Continuing on from this thread over in the Lens Talk section -

Here are a collection of images I've been able to retrieve from the internet showing Nikons being used/adapted for various 'action-type' activities.

The first image shows Flight Sergeant Terence Allan, of the RAF Falcon skydiving team using a motorised F and what looks to be a Nikkor 35mm f/2.

That one is quite small in comparison to ones shown on some other setups I have images of.
I'll upload more soon.

Skydiving photographer Jerry Irwin with his air-to-air camera rig.
A Nikon SP with motor drive and Nikkor 35mm f/1.8.
The viewfinder appears to be from an underwater camera/lens, perhaps a Nikonos.

Here's one that's made out of an F2, motor drive & rear-mounted battery pack.
Designed and manufactured by inventor and camera-repair guru, Marty Forscher of 'Professional Camera Repair Service' in Midtown Manhattan, USA.

Unfortunately Marty and his shop are no longer with us. He passed away back in 2009.

Here are a couple of shots showing skydiver/photographer Bob Buquor jumping out of planes with a Nikon F attached to his helmet. The device over the shutter-button/film-advance looks interesting.

British photojournalist Larry Burrows covering the war in Vietnam.
Seen here setting up a 1960s-style 'Go-Pro'................a Nikon F with a Nikkor 2.1cm f/4 attached to it.
The chopper the camera is being mounted to is a Sikorsky S-58.
The images below were taken with this setup.

The images would go on to be used in an article published in the April 16, 1965, issue of LIFE called 'One Ride with Yankee Papa 13'.

Very remarkable serie.  Unfortunately, one of the pilots, James E. Magel, didn't made it....
