This is the thread for November. It opens for posting 1st November as the October thread is closed.
NB: Change of format: Each member can contribute a maximum of 1 image per day.
Additional images from a member that day will be deleted without further notice. You can substitute your daily image for another contribution, though, provided the earlier one is removed.

As the old thread needs to be closed and another has to be unlocked or created, the shift must occur when one of the Admins are awake ...
A final point in case is the server runs on Central European Time. Thus all timestamps are according to that time zone. A month is a month anywhere in the world, too, remember.
-
Action painting.

Totally love it, Akira!

You can close the last month thread on Midday Europe first day of the month....

Closing time is Midnight of the last day of the given month.
The server time then ticks over to the next month.

Interesting clouds, Akira. Japanese signs? ;)
Beauty of a portrait, Frank !
November 1st 2016, cloudy.
Rowan leaf.
D600 80/2.8
-
Akira - great clouds (as usual... :) ). I can't decide if it is a bird or a fish I see in the center, or both - interesting...
Frank - indeed a very nice portrait.
John - nice calm neutral background to allow one to see the details and colors of the leaf.
-
Frank, glad you love it! He resembles Alfred Brendel...
John and Lars, thanks! It is totally abstract. :)
John, this is a beautiful objet.
-
Thanks Lars and Akira.
-
Highly intelligent and witty guy. I know him for a long time. He is the protestant priest running the neighbouring congregation. With him and our catholic priest together we live an oecomenic sister and brotherhood. Glad you like the picture.
-
Ominous Landscape...
-
Akira: After a long testing phase your sky scapes have found a form that looks very convincing & promising to my eyes!
-
Frank, your are too kind. Thank you for the compliment.
I consider the clouds as "objets trouves" and enjoy looking for interesting ones.

2. November 2016 (replaced with advanced edit at 16:02 UTC +1)
I already feel it is more like a painting now than a photo. I cloned out distracting or possibly distrascting elements, completely revamped the response curves by using Layer-Technology and do not forget what I did to the poor file in the begining, using Capture NX-D...

Nice city night and moon shot. Like the mood and the clarity.

Yes. Beautiful transfer from dark blue to orange. Lovely.

Thanks, Thomas and John. In the winter, the air will be very dry in Tokyo and the distant view will become clearer. It is the best season for the long lens work. :)

Thank you Frank. :) My favourite photo from our short "Spazierfotowalk". ;)

First I wanted to echo Harald's melancholic wheather aftercast, then I tried to find a positive aspect and found it (yes, it is cold and rains and it is windy, but the greens are greener than ever!):

Nice ones of different character today, John and Frank.

Moody garage scene there.
Today I had to see my garage to get my winter wheels. While they were working, I took a walk & some autumnals:

Thanks Thomas and Frank.

November 12th 2016 Grey and cold, rain coming...

-
Very swirly, Frank. I assume the same nasty grey weather as here. ?
Ugly, wet, cold with some sunny spots here and there. Still trying to figure out how to make the OM-D pictures shine. I feel there is not much detail, although the lens is a good one (Lumix 42,5/1.7) and the camera reacts very harshly to changes in exposure. It can at times be that only one of a bracketing series 0, -1, +1 will be usable in the RAW. Have to dig deeper into that.
Easy light like the one in my carnival series is a piece of cake. I guess flash will be the same. Dull, flat light like in the wet plant shot above can work out well like here or it can be for the bin.
Also the AF I do not yet understand, very different from the Nikon system conceptually. If someone knows a good guide to the OM-D AF system, please!!!

Fons. I like many things about this shot. Esp the contrast. That one can see the edges of the stencil. The near monochrome shot with the very stark leaf colors. The wet stone....

I consider that it has a nice effect contrary to the vignetting: it makes the girl to shine!

16.11. Afternoon.Shocking news.
The ex-renter of the garage I bought
to build a house there has done
welding work on a car stored there and
caused the whole thing to burn down
the police say. Gosh. The guy is now in
hospital having burnt himself too.
I already have a court decision he has
to move out so I can tear down the
Garage and start building. No idea if
The thing goes faster or slower now...
I exchanged the picture of the garage with a nicer picture of some autumn leaves

What is a lucky number?
In Germany you do not have a choice of number. The city appoints the numbers. This lot was renumbered. The original number was #26

I will invite you to Bonn when the building process is in a presentable state.
Currently planning is the state, then the building authorities have their say.
Then the bank will have their say. Inbetween the archeologists will have to clear
The site from Roman remains. Then the building process can start.
If I am lucky I see the first stone put into place in March 2016.
If I am not lucky it can take another 6 month to launch construction.
So I can use any luck and good wishes in the world for this multi dimensional task.

turns into a wealth of colors when it gets wet.

current state outside.

Fons: I hate all these cars that clutter our cities!
Today shooting outside, spending time outside I though long and hard about a thread that shows our city without cars, how they would look like, how much nicer they might be without all these ugly cars in the picture!
And you picture today: The high visibilty man, perfectly compoosed on the wooden bench with his smart phone, the leaves, the bush, even the stones, but .... the ugly Building, the ugly cars,,, do they not ruin it all???

Since i am pensioned, i just work part time and have since made it a habit to go out and shoot, in that respect the daily is still a good incentive, so this is in the village we live, not too many exciting options.

A beauty Akira !
Did you notice positive changes in CC2017?
Thanks, John!
I guess that the stitching quality of Photomerge is improving little by little.
The problem I've been encountering since the update to CC2017 is that the JPEG files are unacceptably soft when exported in the reduced pixel size for web sharing. My latest autumn color image with full of leaves suffers from the problem. It looks OK when viewed at the size displayed in the thread, but it is all too soft or even a bit out-focused when viewed in the originally posted size. I set the quality to the maximum and tried both "bicubic" and "bicubic sharper", but the results are the same.
I may start a thread regarding this problem. I wonder if anyone else is encountering the same problem?
-
Good idea to start a thread. I use Raws to stitch (it takes a bit longer), and have never encountered these problems. Advantage of Raw is the processing afterwards (if necessary)
Just in the very last moment, after resizing, I translate it to a jpg.

I scrutinized my jpeg file in question. I found that the latest version of "Photo" app bundled in Windows 10 had gotten a new UI and its default window shows the image in the size larger than 100% when enlarged, which was the reason for the soft look of the file.
Sorry for your confusion, John, and curse at the "nice" UI design of MS! Oh, well.

Frank, thats the choice to make where to focus, after trying a few options i went for this image to present in the daily, indeed a pc lens has better dof control.

Very nice light!
Not as cold here, the water on the cars was half-frozen, like a slush drink.
Wheather forecast says that we will see frost tomorrow!

Thank you Frank

Today I took a high contrast file with the D600. Did not work out well in NX-D. Then I tried ACR-CC2017 ... and wow wow wow ... much more than I expected!
I tried to do more to the shadow parts, which works but IMO adds a hdr touch to the picture I do not like. The Highlicht recovery of ACR in this case: astounding!

November 29th 2016 Frost, Icy cold. But a clear sky...

#186 & #187 are nice, Frank and John.

ACR is one of the best in highlight and shadow recovery in a natural way, without getting overcooked, because the control-sliders are clear. I usually make an extra layer to revisit ACR for extra corrections in that field. With shadows, yes, watch out for the purple-like HDR overcooked corrections, it looks so unnatural.

Fons, look at the view numbers below the pictures, I think there are many calm connoisseurs of the pictures here :)
BTW: your latest one is special, it carries or it induces a strange feeling, when you look at it. It seems a bit cold, or you get a kind of uncomfortable. I like it! Very well done!

Werner just wish for more participants not silent onlookers, thats been my thing all along since many years.
