Title: The Running of the Llamas
Post by: Anirban Halder on September 14, 2016, 04:39:27
"The Running of the Llamas" is a unique event in Hammond, a tiny town in the corn-covered hills of western Wisconsin. It happens second Saturday every September. Last Saturday was the 20th annual and final Running of the Llamas.

Now the actual race. There were four heats and final round between the winners of each heat.

That's a colourful overview of a rare event, I guess. Do people join in with their own Llama's?  Are there many in the US?

Thank you everyone for kind comments.

I actually thought they would. But surprisingly none of them did.  :D

There are certainly not so many llamas in mid-west, but in US there are. These ones were brought from elsewhere. They were not from the town.

i prefer the ones without the animals being used for idle distractions, the images show great colours

Looks like a fun event.

The brown and white pair in the pen are alpacas.  They are good natured, make nice sweaters, and are delicious.

I like llamas and their kin, very nice looking animals.

Here in Vermont they have become quite popular, along with alpacas, which are bred for their wool.  Llamas, it seems, are very hostile toward coyotes, and for this reason sheep farmers find them very useful.  I've seen a few places offering llama treks and the like too, as I guess they make good pack animals, aside from being cute and fuzzy.

I like the one in shot #11.  It looks as if everyone is having a good time.

Thanks Anthony. I was just gonna write that. They are llama's cousin. :)

Matthew - thanks so much for the additional info. :) It was indeed fun event.

I enjoy looking at various interaction between Liamas and human beings in Anirban-esque color.  Most are both hilarious and heart-warming at the same time.

Fascinating event so nicely captured with some very detailed and colourful images . love  # 3 - it is quite the encounter.
It is also fascinating to learn of this event. Had no idea about until your post.

Methinks Mongo will be able to establish a very good friendship with llamas, and that immediately.  :D

Mongo thinks Akira is correct and quite the matchmaker. The llama is better looking though, has better manners and no doubt, a much better IQ than Mongo. That is, a better IQ in the photographic sense and that other sense too.

There's probably race of every kind of mammals in some part of the world or other.  :)
#3 - I was wondering what if the llama did spit that moment.  ;D They are rather infamous for their spit (although I didn't see any)..
