Title: [Rumor] D760 for Photokina???

A 24-MP-D750-spinoff with Exspeed 5 and D5 AF could smoke them all for small change!

Strange.  D750 was released only two years ago.  Considering the life cycle of the "midrange" Nikon, D610 should be replaced before D750 would.

The D750 is a very good camera for only little more than a D610. It would perhaps make sense to rethink the lineup and offer only D760 at a competitive price.
We don't need so many models. I'm highly interested in a D760.

Do not forget it is a rumor.

It could replace the 610 and the 750.

I also think the co-existence of D7X0 and D6X0 makes no sense anymore.  So, if D760 means the discontinuation of D6X0 series along with the renewal of D750, that makes more sense.

The D610 has a $500.00 (USD) instant savings at B&H Photo, N.Y. while the D750 has a $300.00 (USD) instant savings at B&H Photo. There are other instant savings in effect.

Seems unlikely Nikon would release a new FX camera with EXPEED5 and D5 AF so soon after the D5 and D500. Nikon usually waits at least a year or two so early adopters who want/need these features are forced to buy the more expensive cameras. Only then does it start to trickle down to lesser models. As others have pointed out, the D750 is still mid-cycle.

As for D610 and D750 ... I wonder if the D6xx series might move towards the entry level market - such as removing AI metering and screwdriver AF? This would create separation from the D7xx series and might attract low-end buyers to FX?

Roland: Highly unlikely, yes. We will see. They got the D3400 right ....

I don't see them releasing a D750 successor without a new sensor.  New AF alone wouldnt be enough for them to boast about on such a popular and profitabe model.

The AF sensor unit in D5/500 is much larger than that of D750.  If D760 uses the same sensor, it should be as tall as D810.

The compactness is an important design aspect of D750.  Its width of 140.5mm (0.5mm narrower than D610) had been targeted even before they started designing it, according to an interview to its design team.  I don't think D760 would be any larger.

D500 is almost as tall as D750 because it is a DX body.  The length between the bottom of the body and the lowest part of the mount is longer on D500.

I also don't think Multi-CAM 20k will find itself in any successor of the compact FX DSLRs (D610, Df or D750); the D750's scaled down version of the Multi CAM 3500 is more likely.

I would, however, expect to see Multi-CAM 20k in the D810's successor.

I would, however, expect to see Multi-CAM 20k in the D810's successor.

Yes, that would be necessary especially if the D810's successor would use the derivative of 42MP sensor used in A7RII.

As the pixel spacing increases (sensor resolution decreases), moire/aliasing become more common and serious issues. So far only Kodak made a relatively low resolution 14MP full frame camera (or a few of them) without the optical low pass filter and it got a lot of criticism for the artifacts in images produced with it. The next one with self-cancelling filter setup (effectively similar to no filter) was  the D800E (followed by D810, no OLPF) with 36MP. In 36MP FX moire is not too common and people seem to accept it. However, Nikon, Canon and Sony full frame sensors between 12 and 30 MP so far have had the filter in place. I guess the artifacts are just too common with such low resolutions without the filter. 36, 42, and 50 MP full frame sensors with the exception of the D800 have been made without OLPF. I guess if Nikon produces a much higher resolution successor to the D750, then it would likely be without it.

Sorry OLP I think is right ...if you take the D800 with OLP and the D810 without and look at one sharp lens in the DXO specs you find the same lens is 22MP on the D800 and 28  MP on the D810  which illustrates to me that the sharpness is reduced.   If anyone can see the difference is a different matter !!
