Title: It was just a small-town affair . . .
Post by: David Paterson on August 20, 2016, 23:24:28
Our local agricultural show was held today - raining, as usual - I hope this gives a flavour of this kind of rural event.

1. The farmer's dog
2. The farmer's wife
3. Captive hawk
4. Non-captive hawk
5. Mayumi scoops the pool

Good documentary.

What were Mayumi's prizes for?

Good documentary.
What were Mayumi's prizes for?

Thanks, Anthony.

The  trophies were for "best overall horticultural entry", "best overall vegetable grower" and best overall something else. M. is extremely competitive - she entered 12 individual categories and received 8 firsts, 3 seconds and a third. I have to say, not bad!

Not surprised, after seeing her garden in Killin in May!  Please pass on my congratulations.

yup I can see that - nothing more - nothing less. Your images suit the purpose well.

The bird above the people is humorously ominous...or ominously humorous.

That's impressive...
By the look of the pictures it seems that you are enjoying copious amounts of rain, which must have benefited the veg.

Interesting snaps.  If I remember correctly, Mayumi-san won some prized last year, too?  She really rocks!

Notice the eyes of the hawk are set such that they can look strait forward for ranging and detection, a predator necessity. A rabbit has it's eyes to the side so it can see a vary wide field, probably nearly 360 degrees, to hopefully detect the hawk in time to escape to cover. Many birds also have their eyes set for wide field vision.

The close-up of the hawk shows it's well prepared for its roll in nature, quite impressive.

I wonder what the hawk thinks of the people in front of it as it looks down. :)

Thanks for all the kind comments, David, Erik, Akira, Armando, Keith, Simone and Elsa. I'm very pleased that you like these, because for me it's a nice change from shooting landscapes.

I'll tell her but I have to be careful - I didn't dare to tell her I posted that picture.   ::)
