Most modern Voigtlanders are high resolution. The 40/2 is no exception, but it's bokeh is pfffff.

So do I. Muted colors and soft rendering on a melancholic image. Interesting effect. Softness in the shooting or post-processed?

Frank..
Love that cobalt blue. According to the pottery maker it was brought home from Congo (I think) many, many years ago.
Akira..
Lars, nice coffee cup. I like the texture. You have a good taste (pun intended, why not!). Thanks Akira - also for the pun :-) The texture was what attracted me.

Autumnal and very wet in August. High Summer as we say.
We wear rain coats and jumpers instead of sun cover and
Swim Wear. Warm drinks and board games instead of Ice
blocks swimming in cold drinks hiding inside the Strandkorb.
Upside: All weather is good for taking photos. I am wind and
water proof. We got a public bath with huge salt water basin for
kids here.
-
John, a delightful image of a most beautiful object indeed. Thank you for sharing it with us all, and my and compliments on the stitching quality that you have achieved.
Sadly, where I am, some dickhead would have sawn it off its stand and sold it for the value of the bronze. What is worse is there are many dealers here that would have accepted it as scrap!
I am so glad that Holland is more civilised.
Great shot of the flag, Fons.

August 17. Went on a hiking trip in a EU Natura 2000 Protection Area (birds mainly on this site) not far from where I live. It is also a place where one can get a great view of the bridge "Storebæltsbroen" that connects the two Danish islands Sjælland (Zealand) and Fyn (Funen) - 3rd longest suspension bridge in the world.
The bulk carrier ship to the right had just passed under the bridge ... a fairly big vessel.

Early morning
-
John, nice mood in this shot. Is that water on the right?
-
Thanks Chip. No it's actually blurred sky. I wanted a kind of 'damped' atmosphere and used the lens-cap-filter on the 200/2 which softens, defocusses and unsharps.

Some excitement this AM. First Cobra in the house. Lots of snakes have visited but first Cobra. My son took an image with Smartphone and sent it via Whatsapp to local snake man who will collect and release in the wild. Now we are watching for a parent :( . Each of the vertical tiles are approx. 3" wide so this snake approx. 18 inches. Df, 70-200 f4 vr (only camera immediately to hand).
Frank, yes , nets and ropes from fishing boats. Last year shot the same scene after a storm and had clothing including a Bra (made me wonder) in the branches.

Suggestion of a fisheye employed, John.
Yes, stitched images with a wide angle. It's one of the options in CC to correct for the distortion and that will give the 'Fisheye' effect.

John, we have so many snakes in the Garden that they don't really bother me. It was not until my son came downstairs (and I put my glasses on) that I spotted the markings on the back of the head, the shape of the head and slight flattening behind the head. My wife's cat could have been in trouble ;) . We also have the local venom supplier/Dr. on speed dial. :) I am concerned that there may be more and larger, will keep a close lookout.

Frank, I'm with Fons about the last one. I like all your decisions there. Also plus for the empty feeling in 2# and my favorite will be the 4#: lines, presentation of the light, lines again, post, and last but not least how it takes the high contrast with grace
Thanks for sharing!

Very nice series, Frank, with that lovely 'seamist'. The sixth is my favourite, the colours, the lonely streetlamp and the vague background.

Just the first cobra, ok ... no big deal :)
I got sting by a little wasp 2 weeks ago, and the area is still itchy, hard to the touch, peeling , I can't imagine the damage if bitten by a snake, even if taken the antidote on time

there are no special rules.
Take these:
Try to post one shot daily
The shot must feature EXIF data to show it was taken the day it was posted
due to time zone distribution we set the frame from 12 GST to 12 GST next day
we are not very restrictive though. A bit early or a bit late is OK. Leaving out one day is OK
some even post irregularly on a monthly or weekly basis. All fine.
Love your contribution. Great dog shot. Different.

We are not the Frank & Fons appreciation society. Most of us are not retired and on a tight schedule. We manage to fit our daily shot and some comments on the forum into that schedule, so we prefer to comment on shots that touch us, special shots, remarkable shots, exceptional shots.
Does someone notice? Look below you shots, see the counter there? In this very moment the counter on this page stands at 43. If you discount the visits of the participants this is not very much.

Well, a few remarks. As you can see from this angle the poem is still visible, it was designed to be visible from different corners. Secondly there are some letters missing, the i in 'Blind' and the 'e' in 'Zelfs',
On many occasions someone wrote 'e' in between 'zlfs'. It has to be cleaned many times in a year. ;)
Great sky of Bonn, Frank.

Sadly, she's not that long, not a dachshund. She's a "working" cocker spaniel. (less fur, not for the showring)
Just took a bunch of (boring) pictures at a nosework training session and this happened in a break. Uexpected, but it was the coolest shot of the night :)
-
John: very unusual bokeh effect. can you explain these lines?
Frank, I can not explain exactly why these are rendered when they are from an optic engineering viewpoint because my understanding of optical engineering is not up to that level.
But what I do know is that a good example of a lens that reliably renders these "double hard lines" in OoF areas is the 85mm f1,8 AF-D Nikkor.
When at medium distances from the main subject a different subject displays a hard transition between light and dark, then the edge shows up like one of the lines seen in Johns image.
The 50mm f1,2 is more prone to this then the 55mm f1,2 is, but the latter also displays this behaviour with subjects close to, or about 1m away and behind the main subject.
I try to avoid elements in this zone to work around the issue with most fast lenses.
This behaviour is also part of the reason why I like the 5cm f2 Nikkor-S and the 135mm f3,5 Nikkor-Q.C as much. Both are relatively free of these double lines.
Guessing at optics I would say the problem is caused by internal reflections, which also explains why faster lenses, or lenses with bright frontallens groups tend to suffer morepronounced from this behaviour
-
Thanks Lars. Love the first one in its simplicity.
The Indian Pokeweed is still doing very well, by the way ;)

Is it normal when the aperture does not close totally at 25mm?
Yes. Most Nikon zooms that I have seen do this...even the new ones...apparently closing the aperture at the short end of the zoom is needed to make it a 'constant aperture' zoom. Look through the lens and zoom it...You'll see the aperture close and open as it zooms.
