I did a Game Reserve Tour again this past weekend - and decided to go for some B&W lions this time
-
wow... nice lion images.. monochrome is an interesting touch.. but i would be interested in seeing the color versions for comparisons.
-
Thanks for looking Bob -
colour one and B&W just for you
-
it seems you had your pets at the dentist :)
great pictures, how did you get the one with the tongues structure?
-
Nah Thomas, the lioness has just done some DIY flossing by eating a park ranger or two! You are right though, no plaque or tartar on those teeth.
B&W is a nice touch Elsa, but on this occassion I personally prefer the colour.
-
thank you Thomas and Hugh
long lens and getting close :)
-
If they would not hunt and kill me when they are bored i would order three or four. ;)
Great shots Elsa! I like the BW Conversion. :)
Harald
-
Elsa, are you my lioness?
-
Thank you Harold
Jakov - without a shadow of a doubt.
-
Thank you for the color example which is well suited to that image in my mind.
-
I think lions look good in b/w, including in your series here. A really fierce look in the second picture, and a strangely shy one in the fourth.
-
Very fearsome the second one, the best for me.
Besides man, these are the creatures are fear most.
Sometimes I have nightmares with them.
I think it is child trauma because I saw pictures of a turist being attacked and eaten. Some years ago I saw the footage too. The poor stupid guy had left the car to take closer pictures. So, be careful Elsa!!!
I'd use a 800mm to take these!
-
Thank you Kjetil :)
AtPaula - you are right. These are not pussy cats - they are wild and dangerous. One swipe with a paw could leave you severely hurt.
I am sorry about the experience you had - it is awful!
-
Thanks Bob - I prefer the last posted image in colour also
-
Great series. I agree with Kjetil here on the #'s 2&4 and also like the tongue detail.

Great shots of those Lions , but I prefer the B&W versions... ;D
-
Thank you Bill and Jacques - I appreciate you both taking the time to look and comment.
Every time I go to the Game Reserve - I see something different - and this is why I keep going back.
-
Not sure why i missed these Elsa. Great lion portraits!
Not in the least because you take great pics. ;)
-
Thank you Hans !! ;D ;D
-
Lovely photos Elsa
I recently read an article somewhere about how photos of lions yawning are very popular, because most people think it is a snarl rather than a yawn. Looks like you have just proven it once again!
-
probably 100% correct ! ;)
-
Hi Elsa
Excellent images and all that detail in the tongue, I dare not ask how close is close.
I wish I could say I just popped out to my local Game Reserve. We as a family have a tiny feeling of the free spirit of it in my life.
We have a pack of Ridgebacks with the foundation dogs imported to the UK from South Africa by ourselves.
-
Very powerfull B&W renderings! I like the look and feel ;)
-
The lioness peeping out from behind the log is a cracker for me super stuff Elsa.
-
Thanks guys
Close - ye VERY close - often the 200-500 is too close (even on my full frame)
I am hopefully off to the Game Reserve again soon - very soon ;D
