Title: From Belgium
Post by: Joost Bollens on April 23, 2016, 21:28:42
Hi,
During the last few weeks, I have been reading and browsing through this forum, and I must say that  I am already feeling at home. I saw many pictures that are just "different", i.e. not the stuff that one finds everywhere, and I find this truly inspirational. I myself started at the beginning of the 80s, first with a Yashica mat 124g,  back then already rather old fashioned. A few years later I switched to the Nikon-realm, and have stayed there happily ever after (most of the time).
I think digital photography is even more fun than the film-days. The fact that I have a bit more cash to spend than what used to be the case back then, probably supports the fun. Age, alas, does not only brings blessings. My eyesight, for one, is slowly deteriorating. Although I remain devoted to the 50mm f/1.2 AIs, it is becoming harder to nail the focus, particularly  in darker situations. Today I tried a 50mm f/1.8G AF-S as a an alternative for these situations. Optically  it seems to be a quite nice performer, but I have to admit that I felt somewhat lost by the absence of an aperture ring. New tricks and a (not so) old dog, I suppose. I guess I will cope with a bit of practice.

Joost

" welcome here, from a fellow Belgian."

Enchanté. Actually, we are almost neighbours, there being some 40 km between Waterloo and Lubbeek...

Welcome here, Jost.
Both lenses deliver, both have their own merites.
Have fun, dig into it, shoot and show photos.

Welcome Joost. The first meeting is Maastricht@ June 12, should not be too hard to reach for, assuming you would like to participate.

Looking forward to more shots (already saw some).

Welcome Joost to Nikon Gear.. :) The all purpose 50mm f/1.8 G lens is a great little lens (like many 50mm). Sure, the absence of the f stop ring can be troublesome at first but one's get used to it quite quickly in common use !

Building networks is a core feature of the NG site. Just remember to document and present the proceedings and activities for the remainder of us to enjoy.

Let's bring this up in the Maastricht event Bruno. Plenty of interesting places to go. I'd be interested.

Now back to welcoming Joost to NG!

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

As to the meeting on June the 12th you mentioned, what is actually the purpose of such a meeting? If it is an opportunity either to meet interesting people, or to make nice photos, I might be interested. Keep me informed!

Both Maastricht and Liège are nice cities, and the future is open ended, so why not  visit both?

Here a picture of the "Montagne de Bueren" in Liége. The sky is blown out, but I liked the contrast between on the one hand the lady, who was rather serious about capturing the view, and the playing children on the other hand.

"[If] it is an opportunity either to meet interesting people, or to make nice photos, ..."

Both clauses apply. At least my experience from various NG events over the years.

A group of 12 met in Utrecht a few weeks ago. You'll find the pictures here http://nikongear.net/revival/index.php/topic,3098.0.html. We decided to reconvene on June 12 in Maastricht. More details and current participants here: http://nikongear.net/revival/index.php/topic,3317.15.html.

You're more than welcome to join.

In that case, I have no choice but to participate  :)

Great fun. Super people. Loaded with photo opportunities!

Sometimes we also meet for more than one day. Then we also check out the other participants
taste in wine cooking and dancing abilities..
