It is very interesting to shoot Holy First Communion every year because people from a great variety of social backgrounds come together. The children then step into my mobile studio and all have their portrait taken under the same lighting:

One light Actually works quite well to give a fairly consistent output. comp is a bit loose for me with some images having a lot of space at the top, and not cropped off at the same hight - but that would only be important if you wanted them to be the same - which I would have.

Thank you Elsa for the crop suggestion. I will see to it. Now that I literally have hundreds of these portraits I really yhould work on the post production and presentation. The one light consists in fact of three very bright lamps crammed together to form one lighting area plus an 18sqm white Reflector for fill.

This kind of formal portraits is not really my thing so I am not very qualified to comment, but technically I think they are well executed and the lighting is pleasing.
The fifth however seems to suffer badly from moire'.

Yes. Moirée. The resize did not work so well on that file.
I also suspect that I accidentially posted AdobeRGB files instead of sRGBs.

I think colour profile should not be a problem to many here since many have colour management in their web browsers.

Generally beautifully done.
Perhaps it is my monitor but several of the more olive skinned children have a greenish cast to their face, particularly obvious in the 2nd and 4th for example.

This is a really fascinating series, but for me it is fascinating for a completely different reason.
The dress, the pose, the background - everything here is disconnected from the kids world. Even for an adult this setting looks too restrictive and sober these days. Yet we see children's faces and children's emotions. It looks so unnatural to me, almost as if each of these faces and emotions was put into a cage, built by a society with strict rules and imposed priciples.
To me these faces look a bit like ghosts of their parents and at the same time of themselves when they grow up.
I know nothing abot the Holy First Communion and probably the setting is traditional and appropriate for the occasion, but for a foreign unadulterated eye it looks.. yeah, fascinating.

Thank you all for letting me know how you feel and what I could improve. People in Germany can easily read the signs of social distinction as they apply here from this formal setting. For me it is thus interesting to see the reaction of people in other countries. I now draw another set from another year from the archives.

Frank, these are lovely kids. I was trying to figure out the ' the menace ' amongst the lot. I think I found it..turns out to be a gal.
