Seapy, makes you wonder why in 300 years nobody has opened up the window again?
Good point Mike, I have seen it many times where a window has been blocked up but never re opened.
All I can think of is that the owners have been reluctant to mess with it, getting matching glazing, particularly with mullioned windows can be both difficult and expensive. In some cases walls are more useful than windows when it comes to furniture placement. In other cases it may be that the blocked up window has had an internal wall abutting to it to reduce one larger room into two smaller rooms so it would be undesirable to reopen it.
There is also the thought that in some cases the feature adds interest to the property. In this case if it were mine I think I would reopen it because it's quite small and low, the room must be very dark and I like nice bright rooms as a rule.

This is very crisp. How do you do that?
Dull grey overcast winter skies. Put a 24-70 E on the Df. Snap a picture. Process in PhotoNinja. Post on NG.
By the way, the slight yellowish cast is correct. The air over the city becomes heavily polluted in the winter when the weather is very cold and no winds to shift the pollution. From the surrounding hills you can easily observe the yellowish 'lid' overlaying the city area.

Thanks for real
afx, it is a bit of both. I was trying to get the shot as presented without humans when someone passed by -it is a touristic spot in Praha- . It was to fast for me to get it in the composition but added the element and it was good. I asked the lady -my girlfriend- to step in that position looking in that direction and she did so for about 10 seconds before being bored and move on. Was enough to get this thou.
Thanks for the interest and the comment.

This is one of the top floors of the Tate Modern museum in London. There are a few lines of seats placed facing a row of large windows (this is a crop as Three are 2 more Windows one on each side). I guess the seats are placed here so people can rest and also to take in the view.

Vibrating windows
(http://m5.i.pbase.com/o2/47/396447/1/98067185.QrqpxLYU.atl.jpg)
It looks vibrating though I think it is tension in the glass introduced by the casement frames which bends the glass and causes optical distortion.
-
Hi Thomas, many thanks for your explanation, looking this image but also in the reality you have the sensation that the windows are vibrating. This effect is very interesting for creating images.
Bes regards,
Ramón
-
Very nice Thomas! These windows really stand out. Reminded me of reflected zebras at first.
I`m spending the weekend in "east" Norway (some call it Sweden, but I`m not obsessed with details ;)). In this area the rural communities are characterized with depopulation and uninhabited houses. One sign of life are the posters saying "flea sale&home craft" but this one had the "closed" added to it. Liked the colors and worn down fasade. It was worth a shot. Df and 36-72mm.
-
Thomas, you really have an eye for unusual patterns and details. You have me waiting for what you are going to discover next :)
BW, that last one is very interesting. I did like it until I found the tree reflection in the window; an image withing the image, all of them fulfilling the thread intended theme. Now I love it

Perhaps an idea for the Theme Threads, to make cities as themes, so that whenever someone visits Reykjavik (as in this instance), they would post a photo or two in the theme thread.

-
Hello Akira
I was purely hands on in charge of the assembly of the end product.
It is a Gem of a facade, deserved of a better observed location.
I have worked on another Geometric Glass Structure as well,
which is the Siemens Crystal located in East London.
-
John, thanks for the details. Just googled "Siemens Crystal". Yet another impressive work, no matter how you were involved!

John G, another view of your facade, I made my visit to London for the purpose of collecting my new 105 f1.4 ( 1st September ), I immediately fitted the lens and started taking images, this was on my walk back to Euston, brand new lens used at f1.4, I think your facade was a good lens test target.

-
Hi Jacques
The quality of your capture is exceptional, puts my 50mm f1.8D in the shadows.
The reflections of the surrounding architecture in a abstract presentation, and the view into the floors, is just drawing me in,
A healthy type of voyeurism, I would like to think.
The cleanliness of this facade in the heart of London was as appealing as the facade itself.
The Landlord of this building deserves a loud applaud, for appearing to spend regularly on cleaning maintenance.
-
Thanks John.

Thanks, Paco.
Usually the stuff creeps in my mind in an unflustered moment.
The art lies in creating an untroubled moment for the brain to filter associations openly from the flow of impressions.
The picture will hook up and grow in the mind until it's time to press the trigger.
I'm using aquired fotographer skills to refine if neccessary.
Short story long: my wife and I were travelling and in the need for some food .
Not getting a snap for some time I wasn't in the mood so much. My wife moved on her own to dig through all the goodies in a foreign country super market.
Her joy was my pleasure: the windows shown are on the very same building.
After a few minutes I happily followed her ... earthed again.
We cooked a nice meal that evening.

View from my South window in IR
Nikon D70-IR, Chipped Nikkor-Fisheye 7.5mm/5.6
My self-modded D70-IR (niobate sensor filter replaced by 720nm IR filter) has no LiveView, to use the 7.5mm you have to frame your shots by extrasensory perception.
This is from past archives (April 2019)

A view into a world of fantasy Massimo.
This was taken to try to use the 105mm 1.4 on a D2X body. If course it can not control the diaphragm so it is all the way open.

With the ever-present power cables.
I'm wondering whether some of the warmth in the window comes from lights inside the building Akira?

Colin, it was not yet so dark that the interior lighting needed to be switched on, when the image was taken. And the magnification on the LCD screen for the manual focusing let me confirm that it was purely the reflection of the sunset color on the window pane.

While trying out the fuji xt1 in Seville, 2015. This is one of the beautiful window works in the official dance conservatory. The building was originally part of the 1929 Ibero-american exhibition in Seville, the "argentinian pavillion". The "guatemalan pavillion" is also used nowadays for the school.
