It is not always sweetness and light in the penguin world. These Gentoos in the Falkland Islands had their own territorial dispute. My suspicion is that the penguin on the ground had hijacked the nest of the other bird. Such aggression is rare, and probably arose from a sense of great injustice. Nests in the centre of the colony are safer, and hence are prime real estate.

first one is my fav - you should stay there for a while and train lawyer penguins :)

I suspect your assumption is correct. Good Stuff.

Beautiful series. Very different from all other penguin photos I've seen till date!

Anthony, great series !
do not leave us wondering ... who won ?
-
I wonder how it will turn out. It seems that while one is complaining loudly and acting aggressive, the other doesn't seem like its going to move. An impasse. An interesting series.

Aft, Thomas, Anirban, Gary, Armando, Longhiker, thanks.
Thomas, the problem is that they could only pay me with regurgitated fish. Much as I like sushi......

Hmm, I would need another trip to try this. Now there's an excuse....
Armando, I think the bird on the nest won, the other bird eventually gave up.
