Renaming and making it a serial thread. Let us share all photos shot at airports under this thread.

McCarran Airport Las Vegas. Of course there are slot machines even here :D
-
Mike - "LHR Terminal 5" shows typical busy Heathrow! I find it amusing to see an American coffee giant in that shot.
Bjørn - Oslo Airport on a rainy day shot it just "wow"! Copenhagen Airport Kastrup is a very colorful shot. I was amazed how good V1 is.
Note the bicycle parked against the departure lounge.
Isn't that the coolest airport?! :)
-
"I find it amusing to see an American coffee giant in that shot". Whatever beverage they serve has only the colour in common with the real thing ...
-
Starbucks is a dirty word here!
Another interesting themed topic!
-
Isn't that the coolest airport?! :)
Since you like it, here is the matching runway.
-
They are at least saved from frost and snow on the runway :D

Quickly browsing airport images from my archive, I made some surprising discoveries. This night scene, from Frankfurt am Main Germany August 2009, is remarkable not because of its photographic qualities, but by clearly showing a person I at that point in time hadn't met, but soon thereafter became a dear friend.
I am of course talking about "The Great Dane" aka "Dr. Lens", or Erik G. Lund. His impressive frame, here with a khaki-coloured attire, really stands out in the crowd !! I noticed his photo vest and started talking with him later on the flight, and we spent the long flight from Frankfurt to Johannesburg discovering we had so much in common. The rest is history, as they say. The present NikonGear Community is a direct consequence of that trip in so many ways. During the trip, Jakov and Jan Anne also entered the inner circle permanently.

Anirban Halder: Mention them to a security guard and close down the airport ;)
Bjørn: Your Gardermoen shot is wonderful.
Anthony: Was the departure lounge reserved for business class? :p

Schiphol in 2003.

I like the Zambian airport best.
Interesting to see a Cessna 177 doing bush work.
-
I can't offer all those exotic airports, but i can offer Schiphol AMS - 2015.
-
It took me ages to twig that No1 was shout though glass. :)

flight got overbooked ?
;D ;D ;D ;D
good thread - yet again !

@ Øivind: wow, impressive that first one.
@ Mike: you nailed it, double exposure :)

Hi Bjørn,
Are you sure about the Big Dipper in your stars shot from the plane?
I see Canis Major, Orion and Taurus for sure but not the big dipper (Ursa Major)!
Maybe I did not get what you meant.
Anyway, it is a cool shot and probably a rare attempt at astrophotography from a fast moving object!
I know it is also done from satellites but the means developed are not in the same league of course.

Oops, brain fart, Orion of course, my bad. And do not blame Bjørn for that. ;D
The plane moves at a pretty moderate speed compared to how fast we swirl around the earth here on the ground, so as long as one can brace relative to the plane and a steady course is held, it can work.
-
I especially love the snowy ports. Asle - your shot really appeals to me.
-
Elsa, duly noted. Vanda Airport Helsinki Finland. They obviously don't have heavy snowfall in mind?
-
Could also have posted this under "Photographers in action". Oslo Maritime Airport Fornebu, long since gone out of existence, but a frequent starting point for me doing aerial photography in the mid '70s.
-
Oops, brain fart, Orion of course, my bad. And do not blame Bjørn for that. ;D
Sorry for my mistake!
but in the end, Bjørn, Øivind, Orion, Big Dipper, it is all about stars, right?
-
Bjørn - your airport photo collection is extremely impressive. They are very creative like your all other photos. In fact you can create a coffee table book with just photos of airport! :) Glad I started this thread.
-
"Sleepless in Seattle". A nightly layover at Tacoma International Seattle draws to an end. Morning light heralds the coming of the return flight home after the US Desert Trip of 2012 (with Andrea). Nikon D3X, AFS 200/2 Nikkor.
-
"Minority Report".
OSL+ Gardermoen. D3 with AFS 24-70 Nikkor.
-
Ever lost your checked-in luggage? It happens to all of us. Maybe your bag is here ...
-
Narita Airport Tokyo, 2007. I'm told the Japanese text says "Welcome Back", can Akira or others coping with the language please confirm?
Bjørn, you are right. "Welcome Back" is more precise translation for "Okaerinasai". By the way, that's when we finally saw each other in person!
FWIW, the display right below the "Welcome Back" sign says that they found one malaria patient in red.

Don't worry, Anirban - airports supply an endless list of photo opportunities. Not as they will pass out of vogue anything soon ...
"The Arrival" (D3, 35/1.4 AIS). OSL Gardermoen.
-
More arrivals ... Thermography of arriving passengers at Tambo International Airport, Johannnesburg. Claimed to help find passengers having a deadly disease. Or so I was told, but perhaps the tale was pretty tall.
By the way, be very careful if you try shooting such scenes - the security guards will fall over you like a ton of bricks if you are spotted. A situation for which small unobtrusive (and automatic functioning) cameras are advantageous. I took my chance with my Nikon D3 and the 35/1.4 AIS and got away with it.
-
Well, found another one in my archives. Shot on film, probably velvia with a fm3a and the 24ais i still have. KL airport Malaysia.
Mike, this one's shot through glass ;D

I love airport shots. It captures a moment when people can be very vulnerable - leaving - arriving - each contributing different sets of emotions - on display to the rest of the world. You cant escape it.

More arrivals ... Thermography of arriving passengers at Tambo International Airport, Johannnesburg.
Interesting to notice the different angles of view of left passengers, between your picture and thermograph screen.
BTW, you are right, taking such picture can leading to a security office hence a big waste of time ! ??? :D
Below, ''low cost'' passengers (including myself off course) waiting for boarding at Bordeaux-Mérignac airport. Price of return ticket Bordeaux-London Stanstead : 45€/£32...!!!

Thanks for posting the shot Bjørn ;) I remember clearly the details and indeed this meeting had a true Butterfly Effect!

Still Roissy Charles De Gaulle airport, but outside...
Flying mastodon Airbus A380 coming on runway.

...And taking off while a ''smaller one'' just landed.

That A380 is a seriously big plane...
-
The Airbus A380 is certainly mind blowingly huge. So impressive!

We were at JFK waiting to fly to Italy. Window reflections and light stars always fascinate me.

Minneapolis Airport, Lindbergh terminal after a light snow. Dec 2015.

There are many kinds of "airports". At this one, it's a 200-meter walk from the house to the plane.
