-
As said before, the 135 degrees view of the Laowa 9mm f/5.6 is difficult to handle. OK, once in a while I would use the entire field of view, just to show how enormous it is. I think it will be more regular for me at least to either shoot the lens on the Z fc/Z30, or put the Z9 to DX mode.
However, I just *had* to investigate whether the 9mm could do IR. There is no filter thread in front thanks to the bulbous front element, but room for a rear slim filter mounted in an ad-hoc fashion. I searched for, and found, some IR gel filters that I cut to size, for a first try.
It works (full-spectrum Z5). No hot spot, which is unusual for new optical designs on the mirrorless systems. The field of view is of course unmanageably wide. Sharpness is surprisingly good even in IR, however some smearing to the corners is caused by astigmatism.

Ruth gave me a Moomin mug, I indulged myself with the new Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 lens just in order to be able to make a test exposure at f/1.2 :)
By the way, this lens is an excellent performer. Performance comes at the expense of weight, as this optic tips the scales at 700g. I purchased the 75 directly from the Viltrox store and it came pretty cheap, nearly half of what my local photo dealer asks for it.

Great picture, which tells a cautionary tale. I'm betting this is the insurance adjuster and not the roofer climbing up a ladder with smooth-soled alligator boots. May he not slip or it might be the last time he climbs up a ladder for a while!

My thoughts exactly. However, this was a young guy the roofer sent over to take pictures of our roof (camera phone) so he could help "persuade" the insurance company that an 80 year old clay tile roof is impossible to replace for the estimate the adjuster gave. I would have taken the pictures myself except for the fact that I'm no longer able to climb and I have no interest in being on a roof when the temperature outside is 105 degrees Fahrenheit. ??? :o

I have signed up for pro bono work as a validator of aquatic plants for the National History Museum of Botany at the University of Oslo. Got my security clearance and access key card today, so spent the entire day immersed -- literally -- in the herbarium. A quiet and if I'm allowed to say so, rather dusty, place. However, somebody has to do the job and I volunteered. No idea for how long the task will take, but I expect to be busy for some months at least. I have to go through around 10,000 collections. mainly Pondweeds (Potamogeton, Stuckenia, and Groenlandia).
A quick view of my working space there. Now it's between me, the monographs, the Leica binocular microscope (which is excellent), and the herbarium sheets.

Oh well. Somebody has to take on the challenge and it happened to be me....
Whether this will be tiresome or not depend on the error rate of previous determinations. I hope the error rate is <5%, but for some tricky species or hybrids it could be much higher. All those dubious specimens can require a lot of time in order to arrive at a certified identification.
The sheet in the photo carried a wrongly identified specimen, but getting the correct ID was a breeze (Potamogeton lucens => P. praelongus) in this case. The Pondweeds Potamogeton are my life-long friends.

Sounds like a great, project. Good luck, Birna.

Sounds like a great lens and read some good reviews as well. Close focus distance is OK?

Our association ProVelo organized a bike cinema where the power for the beamer is generated by 10 bikes.
It was a lovely evening and people got an idea how much power and sweat it takes to drive everyday items.

The 75/1.2 does OK at its near limit on its own, however, its image quality deteriorates very rapidly if more extension is added.

Thanks for the info Birna. So it's more useful as a portrait lens?

Incredible! I remember your post, now.I took it this morning in front on Ambleteuse, Opal Coast. It was close to Dover.
Looking at their web site, it might be another one, they seem fond of pink boats and containers: https://www.one-line.com/en/standard-page/philosophy
Edit: they have several ships of this class, all pink apparently. I looked at my other pictures but could not find one clear enough to read the name, and the heat waves are such that at 200% everything is very blurry anyway.

I see. Not sure if the name of this one is the one you can find in the side of the bow "One Triumph" or in the stern: "One Triumph" and right under that "majuro"
The containers do not match either, unless they changed the cargo. :)

The Oslo Metro in general is a rather dull but effective transportation system. Once in a while, there is something literally standing out, though :)
Nikon Z fc, Viltrox 13mm f/1.4. That is is surprisingly sharp and almost rectilinear as well (just a trace of pincushion distortion, for a change).

Paco, One Triumph left Rotterdam and is now headed for the Suez canal, so it will passing you again soon.
It appears to be going back to the Orient to pick up another load of Barbie Dolls (in those pink containers) ;D ;D

It is. Seeing it from our little dolphing seeking boat it appeared gigantic.
