Trying out 600mm for landscape. The Ice breakup in river Gaula (mid-Norway) with 300mm.
-
600mm demands a good eye for landscape details, but its use can produce very nice images.
-
Yes, it is certainly more demanding than the 300mm because of the very narrow field of view.
This is the f/4 AF-S G VR (just obtained), and it can certainly deliver if you get it right. Practice is the key here as always I suppose...
-
I agree knb
The longest I have is 300mm, but love attempting landscapes with it.
-
It's a challenge, using long lenses for landscape ;)
-
Thanks for your comments Colin and John. It may be a challenge, but challenges can be fun. Just go for it with the 300, it can even be used hand-held. Something that is hardly the case with the 600 f/4.

At 840mm now (600m with 1.4x TC), by a lake at the northern outskirts of Oslo.
-
And the real reason for using the 1.4x TC (and for bying this lens in the first place), still at the lake maridalsvannet:
-
A majority of my landscape pictures are made with long lenses.

Long-distance lucky IR imaging of the peak of Mont Deborah, more than 150km south of Fairbanks, more details on the technique here: https://otoien.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p1730522322.jpg (https://otoien.zenfolio.com/img/s/v-10/p1730522322.jpg). Stitch of two horizontal frames.

Amazing detail given the huge distance away :)
