Spent some time today going through a cupboard trying to locate the source of a rather acrid smell. Turned out to be some elderly acetate decomposing into ascetic acid. "Ouch" as it now lists at around $7 per sheet :(
Perhaps this should have gone in the Death & Decay thread...

They would fare a bit better if you had put them into the deepfreezer :) Sheet film 5x7", now that is serious business. I mainly used 4x5" and a few times 8x10", but costs were prohibitive for the latter (I used colour not b/w).
I think there still are a few sheets of 4x5" colour film in my freezer, but using them these days is more tricky as most film labs have shut down long ago.

After an overnight airing the FP4 smells a lot better...as it should, it's a polyester rather than acetate base :)

Ha, some of our pickling/kim chi experiments have been like that too ;D ;D However, in this case the culprits are on-the-nose negs that have buckled bases and cracked emulsion :o

All of which reminds me that I have a stack of printing paper that shared the deep freeze until the blueberries demanded more space, about ten years ago. How do you get this stuff off your hands? Ethically and legally, of course.

Contact your municipal waste people. They will know what to do with it.
