Title: Parting with a camera is a good chance to get out of the box.
Post by: Akira on January 09, 2022, 09:40:31
As mentioned in the January thread of "Your Weekly Blog", I dropped my trusty SIGMA fp with the brand new Lumix S 5081.8 from the 6th floor of the emergency stairs to the 3rd floor.  The lens went totally defunct, and I had to send my one-and-only camera body to SIGMA for the full inspection and possible repair.  I will have to live with my 2nd gen iPhone SE as my only camera for at least a few weeks.

Rather than crying over spilt milk, I decided to take it as an opportunity to get out of the box.  Here are some initial results.

The last one from the first batch was also posted to "RGB" thread.

Here is the second batch.

Continue like that, Akira! I particularly like the touches of red. They’re well rendered. Did you process the images further ?

Bruno, thank you for the encouragement.  Except for the one with carps, all images are jpeg files straight out of iPhone and only resized in PS.  For the images with carps, I adjusted the contrast, exposure, highlight and the saturation of green in the color mixer.

Akira, so sorry to hear about your Sigma fp and the new lens.  Let us hope that the body can be saved.  I wrecked a near new Nikon 28-300mm lens as a result of a fall a few years ago, so I unfortunately know how you must be feeling.

I am interested in the quality that you have got out of your iPhone - thanks for sharing with us.

Akira,

I see that you dealt with the loss by brilliantly living up to your own words.

Please accept a respectful "well done."

Sorry to hear about your camera drop Akira.
If its any consolidation, I dropped my mobile into the toilet last week :(

Ditto. It looks like it was a boost instead of a set back!

Sorry anyway for the lost of gear and I hope it can either be repaired or you will find a way to a new and/or different one.

Thinking outside the box can be done without dropping a camera in the dramatic fashion Akira describes. All it takes is to think different with the brain power one already has ... however a trigger event makes the re-orientation easier :)

I'm convinced you shall come up with splendid photos as usual, Akira. No worries.

Thought using a Sigma fp camera was already highly out of the box thinking  ;D

As your signature says “Limitation is inspiration” so maybe some good might come from this bad experience.

I am sorry to hear about the incident :(

And of course, pictures are nice as usual regardless of what they were taken with.

Thank you, Hugh, for kind words.  Sorry for your loss of your new lens.  Now I can share your feeling.

The smartphone images have been dramatically improved.  Also, I've found that the JPEG files straight out of the camera are surprisingly pliable.

Thank, Paco.  I believe that turning a mishap into something positive is essential in our lives.

Birna, I'm well aware that you have been through the loss of trusty equipment so much more than I have.  Thank you for the encouragement.

Jan, that's so true!   ;D  In a way, SIGMA fp has beaten Nikon Z9 in terms of eliminating mechanical shutter altogether.  It even lacks in-body image stabilization.  It has kicked all the mechanical moving parts out of the box!

Indeed, I'm now enjoying the limitation of not having a camera.
