Great shot Paco. Impressive landscape. In 2001 I cycled from the summer warmth of Granada to the snowy top of the Pico Veleta. I remember it was a long and exhausting trip. The reward was a thrilling 70+ km/h descent :)

How do you find the MkIV?
Thanks Hugh. Image quality is a step up from the MkII. I don't like the controls are dumbed down e.g. it's not possible anymore to configure the four-way controller to change focus point. Using this method is part of my muscle memory so I have to adapt this when using the Mark IV.

The small, slender knotweed Persicaria foliosa is endemic to the Nordic region and has its centre of occurrences around the Baltic Sea. It occurs as a very rare species on inundated river shores in the eastern parts of southern Norway.
I photographed and documented it for my ongoing Aquatic Macrophyte project, and have kept a culture over the summer to have a look at its seeds. However, Nature being what it is - full of surprises - so instead of seed set the knotweed got flowers infected with the smut fungus Sphacelotheca hydropiperis (Schumacher) de Bary 1884. To the best of my knowledge this parasitic fungus never has been reported with P. foliosa as a host. There is a first time for everything, apparently.
I documented the smut by microphotographs of its spores, plus getting an overview of the infection with my workhorse Laowa 25mm f/2.8 Ultra-Macro lens on one of my Z7 bodies. The Laowa 25 is surprisingly sharp set wide open, and stacking 100 frames in Zerene did the rest. Below is a 100% crop of the frame. The scale bar is 1mm overall with 1/100mm steps and as one can observe, the chocolate-brown spores are about the same size i.e. 10-15 µm.
Click the image to open it to full size in a separate window. And keep in mind this is just a crop of the entire frame.

Nice work Armando. Good to see you back. I hope that life is good for you over in Mexico.
Thanks Hugh, everything is fine, I've not taken as many photos as usual due to a new hobby, motorcycling, hopefully I'll find how to combine both in a practical way, so far the best solution has been to use my mobile as it is always with me and packed tight enough that I do not fear it will get damaged by vibration, the fuji with the pancake 27mm f/2.8 is a good alternative but does take significantly more space and time to unpack and then pack before getting going again. I tried an action camera, taking decent video seems to have a steep learning curve and for still photos my mobile does a better job.
The photo above is from a trip I did with my wife, the second one since covid started in March last year.

A recent change in the UK's rules allowed me to travel there to visit my parents. Here is a photograph of a disused church in my hometown, Macclesfield. It is maintained just enough to keep it safe. I reduced the saturation to add to the feel of neglect. In a way it is a metaphor for how I feel about Macclesfield. It used to be much more vibrant, but now......

Meanwhile my battle against the intricacies of aquatic plant taxonomy continues. I have taken on one of the worst groups, that of the aquatic Ranunculus sect. Batrachium aka Water Crowfoot. There be much more than just dragons lurking in the shadows there, I can assure you.
Anyhow, some of the explorations directions take me into microscopy and I have tried to master staining techniques which sound great on paper but are less well behaved in practice. However even a failed microslide can be enjoyable to watch as a tapestry of Nature and her expressions. Here my failed attempt to differentiate viable vs sterile or aborted pollen of Ranunculus cf. trichophyllus, one of the most confusing entries in the enigma that Water Crowfoot presents us with.

Currently I have commenced the tedious chores of writing up the story of each and every species in the Aquatic Plant Project. In doing so, general explanatory images are required. Here is one describing the internal structure of a Duckweed Lemna minor plant. In order to show any details on the inner structure, some true witchcraft potions are administered and the plants let simmering for a while :) In reality the fronds are vividly bright green in colour and there is nothing of the innards to be gleaned.
Most times the plants are without flowers and really don't need sexual propagation as their vegetative dispersal is highly efficient. However, if the sex urge overtakes a plant, it will form ultra-small flowers from one of the two budding pouches on the proximal end of the frond. The air cells provide buoyancy and the root hanging down on the underside provides stability. It has no root hairs at all, just a small root cap at the end. The 'stipe' is similar to a navel chord between mother and daughter frond(s).
Duckweeds being the tiniest of flowering plants necessitate true macro techniques if any sensible image of them is to be captured. For the image below I used Laowa 25mm f/2.8 set to 5X magnification on a Z7. This very specimen is 'huge' as far as L. minor goes.

A recess from the writing-up to make a snapshot of the "Three Musketeers" -- these three are involved in > 90% of the images this year. The new 105/2.8 MC Micro-Nikkor entered the scene too late to impact the statistics significantly, besides it is (for me) only useful outdoors.
From left to right, Laowa 25mm f/2.8, Olympus-OM 38mm f/2.8, and the AFD Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8. The first two are equipped with Laowa LED ring light and have been CPU-enabled, all of which is very practical. I normally use these lenses with a Z7 to cover magnifications up to 5X. For bigger magnifications, there are the Mitutoyo 10X and 20X objectives, or a low-powered microscope. Overviews of plant habit are conducted with either the 105 MC or the old yet still surprisingly versatile AF 70-180 Zoom-Micro-Nikkor.

Where do all those rainbows come from ?
Possibly from the inside of the barrel with poor anti-reflection/ghost means: the edges of the lenses are not painted in black, and their retaining rings are painted in glossy black!

Yet another month with lots of fantastic images, thank you all for the inspiration.
My figs are unfortunately not going to be ripe, as winter is approaching, we have had lots this year.
The tree is from Bornholm, they do manage the cold winters in Denmark.

On the steepest funicular railway in the Tokyo area!
Nikkor UD 20mm on Z6ii. Camera was in manual mode, and the lens wasn't focussed. I just grabbed it when the other train passed.

Lovely.
I trained as a graphic designer, but I am color blind! Many graphic designers are color blind, and in a way it helps them see ‘design’ and not just colors. But for me it was a killer. I couldn’t specify the correct colors to printers, and I got hosed by my boss. So I retired from that career when I was 21!
But even though I am blind to them, I can see their beauty, and it’s there in your image :-)

Thanks, and a fascinating story about your short span in graphic design!

Ominous. Grand. Love the shape of the clouds and the integration with the foreground

I have been just reading and enjoying all your contributions for a while now. I hope the work lets me more free time soon to shoot. Here from a couple of days. Shooting just around my place.
