Title: Notch in focus ring on early AF lenses?
Post by: Bent Hjarbo on August 17, 2021, 14:45:53
Someone asked me what the notch in the focus ring on early Nikkor AF is used for?
As the big internet doesn’t have a quick answer I want to see if Nikongear with all the knowledge can give an answer.

No, actually the notch is only on early AF lenses, not seen before or after.
It can be seen on this page

My wild guess is that the notch might be for the dedicated wrench to screw the focus ring off the internal barrel?
