Title: Walkstool
Post by: Snoogly on August 16, 2021, 06:36:26
I wonder if anyone else has been tempted to buy one of these Swedish bum supporters.

I think for me it will a game changer, as I am now officially elderly, and I have chronic arthritis in both knees. To be able to sit and ponder while framing and focussing macro work will be bliss :-)

If you are young, and don’t have bad knees, this may seem a stupid luxury, but I think for me it will be paradise :-)

I have a ‘normal’ folding stool made by Mont Bell (a trendy Japanese company), but it is too low, and feels like the jaws of death are biting my bum.

Thanks for this information.  It looks like something I could use since I'm old, fat and arthritic.

I was considering getting some things after sitting on the hard ground last night for hours waiting for a Heron to do something other than stand there and preen. There were 2 things that came to mind, something more comfortable to sit on and a monopod. My butt is sore and so are my arms ;D S/He outlasted me (again) and of course to one up me, stood the entire time :)

Hello Thomas, this is exactly how I use the walkstool, always with a monopod.

Thanks for your input everyone. I too intend to use it with a monopod.

the best option for me is a foldable staircase. i used one several years ago for some time when shooting festivals. it allowed me to sit on it as well as to stand above it to take a shot above the heads of other people :o :o :o

You did not include a picture of the necessary cushion.

I have been using a Walkstool for a number of years. Used it today and yesterday. It is now blowing with gale force wind and raining so not tomorrow! It is very light and can easily fit into backpacks such as the one I used today (dark green color item in second pic). The walkstool went in along with my underwater housing, toolbag, bundle of 10-meter-long waterproof cable, and bug proof shirt. One shot shows my remote monitor on the stool with my camera pole set up in the lake in the background, the other I am sitting on it facing away from the lake - there are willows to the left and right and just above the frame. With me hunched over a bit I could see the monitor screen - not easy outdoors.

ps The Z6 used to take these pix traveled in the soft bag that (upper right) that in turn was in the Billingham bag that I used also for the book and monitor. I carried the camera pole in my hands - ready to wack a bear's nose if needed!

I would not stand on a Walkstool!!!!! It takes the extra support of my legs not to tip over as it is but I am on uneven ground most of the time. I am well over 100kg.

Four-legged camping chairs are more comfortable but do not fit into back packs when folded. I have broken several due to metal fatigue in the frame because it is hard to keep all four legs on the ground at once so I put on a lot of stress. My current one is rated to 300 pounds and I have not broken it!

ps. I dug up a shot showing this four legged chair taken within a few meters of where I was shooting the last two days. Here the camera pole is in the lake right at the mouth of the creek. I am facing south more or less. The previous shots were to the west of this small point where the creek enters the lake - a small "embayment" used by salmon for spawning.
