Good that re-skinning with a new colour seems to be no big deal.

I personally dislike the front dial on the Df, so maybe the Zfc one will be easier to use?  Somewhere I have seen a picture of a Df with a custom made front dial that is allegedly easier to use, so others must have had issues with it as well as myself.

That absurd front dial and the lack of a notch on the power button still make me question the DF, even though I use it.

Two totally bonkers decisions - or, I suspect, non decisions.

Thank you Richard for the info :)
Looking good but I’ve got Z50 and I am not thinking to replace, I use it mostly with 200-500 and handling with Z50 grip is very nice ;)

And when you get it, Birna, your first impressions, please. . . . from a df perspective

That would be my starting point. DX vs FX is less important at least for first impressions.

My plan is using the ZFc for manual lenses, in particular older rangefinder Nikkors, and further for utilising my various CPU-enabled Nikkors. The first aspect is now taken care of mainly by the Z50, however I struggle to be endeared by it. The latter is of course the mainstay of my Df cameras right now.

as mentioned in my article i could see a lot of people customizing this, if i were to get this i would want to add an MB12 to it :o :o :o

as of writing i already saw somebody thinking of adding things to it, thanks to the angular body which makes fabrication a lot easier.

It is cute and quite interesting. This is one where me self's age makes me look, scratch and chuckle. The Df had a grandson..... this little bugger.
(I also wish I had one on order.)
Go Birna

How did you come to that conclusion? Is there an article or statement you can provide a link to?

an interview, nikon said that the Zfc is not the successor to the Df. :o :o :o

the Zfc was made to appeal to the younger set and not middle-aged and balding folks like us.
the demographic that represents us are the target audience for the Df it says.

indeed, the people who i was with were mostly people in their 20s or mid 30s ::)

And speaking for myself only, I'm hoping the Df successor has a prism and mirror. :)

Tick Tracy has his 2-Way wrist TV. Why can't I have a solid state reflex mirror?

I never liked the Df, I don’t like an EVF, and Dx is out of the question. I’m afraid this camera is not for me  ;)

I recall that the Df was also popular among young people in Japan some of whom may not have experienced this type of a camera (user interface) before.

Ignoring the retro look and feel of the Z fc why might one buy a Z fc over a Z 50?

Dial controls, better flippy screen, USB-C, Eye-AF for video, looks better.

A good report!
But I disagree with the front wheel. Although the one of Df ismore beautiful design wise it is a nightmare ergonomically (wrote economically first hihihi - uh was i tired) - so I am glad that they have made it this way (as it was rumored for the Df2 that never came)
It is really a great looking camera

+1, Wolfgang, the front wheel of my df has always been a nightmare to use ! Not comfortable, not ergonomically and (I think so) not really esthetically designed !

The front wheel of this Z-fc seems more discrete and probably more ergonomic ! It seems pretty close to the front wheel of the Fuji-XT or XE cameras...

The more I see the Z fc the more I think about buying one !

MAP Camera published an interesting interview with Nikon on the new Nikon Z fc camera :

https://news.mapcamera.com/maptimes/zfc_interview/ (in Japanese but Google translate works well)

Of note is that because it has no grip (which usually houses the battery), the battery had to be moved so there is very little space inside the camera. That meant there was no space for IBIS. Nikon is considering an FX version based on customer feedback.

Very nice observation, but what made you think that migrating from 24/2 lens on FF making it f3.0 on DX body? Do you really mean DOF? THX!  LZ

the shutter sounds rather noisy, now i know that it was intended to be that way :o :o :o

i was at the park yesterday and i saw a youngster with a Zfc, looks like it hit the intended market ::)
very tempted to buy but i could not justify its use and expense at the moment.
still looking for a Nikkor-N 5cm f/1.1, if somebody has one to sell me please give me a nice offer.
Nelson (unrelated to me) really likes the 45/2.8P it seems.

I would like a FX version styled on the Nikon FE2. I would give the camera an MD-12 style grip but not the height of the FE2 with MD-12. This would give more room inside the body proper for in body image stabilization. I would keep the camera as small as possible but I would not sacrifice a preview button and function button in the traditional positions and an AF-ON button.

Nikon might offer a battery booster or maybe not. The reason I might not is to keep the body a bit smaller and lighter. Since the camera would not be aimed directly at sports/action/wildlife photographers an extra high frame rate probably would not be that important. I'm not sure a booster makes much difference for frame rate on a mirrorless body? I'm probably thinking in terms of a DSLR here. A booster would make a difference I'd think for video run time. The EN-EL15c would be a good choice for a battery. I don't mind carrying spare batteries for my D850 so I would not mind carrying spare batteries for the new camera.

I would very much like a backside illuminated sensor for low light performance and please no low pass filter.

I wonder if long time FM2n/FE2 users like myself suffer a hearing loss? The Nikon F3 is much easier on the ears compared to the FM2n/FE2 and the F2. I believe the FE was easier on the ears compared to the FE2 also.

The shutter sound can be turned off on the Nikon Z fc, right? That's one of the first things I'd do.

i dont think it could be turned off but theres a silent mode though. ::)

the shutter sound is pleasant but louder than the Z6 :o :o :o

My mistake: I was thinking of a sound effect emitted from a speaker not the sound of a mechanical shutter.  :-[
