Title: ViewNX 2 and macOS for fast NEF browser...
Post by: David H. Hartman on July 02, 2021, 18:53:37
For those who might want a fast, light NEF browser for the macOS I successfully installed ViewNX 2 on my old MacBook Pro running High Sierra 10.13.6. To do this I installed macOS Yosemite 10.10.1 on a spare volume and copied the Home Folder> Applications> Nikon Software> ViewNX 2 folder from Yosemite 10.10.1 to High Sierra 10.13.6. This may or may not work on later versions of the macOS that run on Intel CPU(s). I'm quite sure this method will not work on MAC(s) with M1 CPU(s).

I find ViewNX 2 useful for quickly culling NEF(s) recently up loaded to my MacBook Pro. There is no lag time for displaying thumbnails and only a brief one for a 100% pixel view for checking focus. This is in contrast to ViewNX-i and NX Studio which can be very slow at displaying previews when the NEF(s) have been adjusted or when ratings and key words have been saved in the *.nksc side car files.

A right click on a thumbnail or preview image brings up a context menu where the "Open With" option can be used to open the NEF in Capture NX-D, NX Studio or another RAW processor.
