surprisingly good! i think this is the best lens for its price :o :o :o

It is a good performer, indeed. I inherited my mother's sample of the 55/1.8 which she used on her Pentax Spotmatic for many years. The lens now appears "professionally used" with all that this entails :) I do fondly remember the sharp images she showed us throughout the years.

i fully understand both of your impressions of the lens. its beautiful but coatings were kind of simple hence the poor contra-light performance.

my photoshop and lightroom licenses is kind of problematic now so i am posting non-nikkor stuff. should be getting back to nikons once thats settled :o :o :o

Yes that is the dedicated hood.

Following inscription on the sun hood: " Standard Lens  1:1.4  50mm  1:1.8-2  55mm     ASAHI OPT. Co., JAPAN   49ø"
