basically, thie device pictured is a lens, even though it has a stand, a shutter, a beamsplitter with an ocular and a CDS sensor with a coresponding measuring insturment. The latter 3 are of no use since my Z7 tethered to my laptop manages everything except focussing; which is done by smoothly running knobs on the device. No problems with the notorious moving focus point of the Z since the lens has a flat field and focussing on a big screen is not very demanding.

Wonderful system, have (had) it many years - now with a very good friend who does amazing art with it.
Back then the only Macro ZOOM system available! It also covers nearly 4x5 using special opticd Zeiss provided.
I have featured it on my macrolenses site: http://www.macrolenses.de/ao_detail.php?AdonsNr=213 (http://www.macrolenses.de/ao_detail.php?AdonsNr=213)
I also have the ZEISS documents for it just in case...

Very interesting "macroscope". Please post some pictures to show its use and quality.

Amazing IQ indeed for a Zoom Macro System!
-
Yes, really very sharp!
-
makes between 0,8 and 12,6 scale photos and fitting an autoexposure camera tethered to a computer on top makes both focussing and exposing easier.

Quite a sophisticated macro lens setup - Sort of a little sister to the Nikon Multiphot 8) Very nice sharpness!
