Dominican Republic, Isla Saona. Incredible place. You can only arrive by boat -It is an island- and there is a little point, in the middle of nowere in the water, were you can stop and walk! 3-4 feet of depth with many starfish.

I ventured out this weekend to catch low tide at a nearby beach. Due to the California Current the beach is often cold and foggy. Fortunately my companion brought a fur coat.
Extreme low tide also means extreme high tides. This has swept the beach and pushed some sort of sand bug high up the beach where they dig through a layer of black iron sand, bringing it to the surface.

Building 'beer castles' on a Danish beach outside Copenhagen ... wonder who this gent might be? (it is not Erik)
-
No idea about the gent but he has excellent taste as Grolsch is my favourite pilsener :)
-
Hint: he is a core person of NG.
-
My guess is Jakov or Paco.
-
This was before I had the pleasure of meeting Paco in person. However, the depicted gent who by the way lives in The Hague, I have met many times. Always resulting in enjoyable moments.
-
Well, Jakov or no Jakov, let's soldier on with more beach scenery.
On a late autumn trip to the Lofoten Archipelago, Arctic Norway, I snapped these kids frolicking in the ice-cold waves rolling in from the Arctic Sea. Water temperature could not be much above 8C - it was really *chilly*. Not that such insignificant details deterred them. In fact, they came running straight onto the beach stripping their clothes on the way and went straight into the waves.
I had been shooting IR with D70 which was not modified, thus had a completely black, opaque filter in front. I just had removed camera from the tripod thus shot straight from the hip and hoped for the best, despite late afternoon and low light levels.
-
A few years later I visited the same Lofoten beach again, still late autumn, and now had our esteemed NG Crew member Jan Anne as model. Thus I could make the setup more elaborate and some times even direct him to the desired spot on the beach. I had to jump into the water myself to convince him this was ""pleasant"". With my modified Nikon D5300-IR I could at least see what I was doing.
This was the preferred result from that session. Many other frames were OK, but this had just that little extra, I think.

Fons, your photo is in Untagged RGB, which does not do the colours justice. I think you need to embed sRGB.

Is that sRGB or RGB? The former is better on the web.

There should be no need to change the working profile - like you, I use Prophoto. When saving a jpeg for the web, just change the embedded profile of the jpeg to sRGB.
-
Thats what i have been doing which means prophoto will be the embedded profile. The z6 may need a different approach when it comes to esp. blue colours. :)

The profile of the jpeg version which you have posted is now showing sRGB. However, the spiky beachball higher up the page still shows Untagged RGB

Anthony which program are you using to show these details?
-
Anthony which program are you using to show these details?
Photoshop. I drag them into a PS window and the box at the bottom left of the screen can be adjusted to show the colour space. This is purely for research purposes. I have no intention of infringing your copyright and I do not keep the images on my computer.
-
Z6 20/3.5 Al
Nasos, I like this exaggerated perspective effect!
-
I shoot with 14 bit Nikon Adobe RGB in camera. I set my work space on an old version of Photoshop to sRGB as this seems to display colors well with my LCD(s). However I continue working in 16 bit Nikon Adobe RGB and save PSD(s) that way. When exporting to JGP I duplicate, flatten and convert to sRGB and 8 bit.
This isn't a recommendation it's just what I do.

Daniel, Akira, Thomas thank you for your comments.
Scary indeed, it would seem that this croc may have been chasing turtles nesting on the beach. At the moment the water is warm enough for them to stay in, they don't need to land to warm up in the sun. The beaches here in the far North West remain pristine, patrolled by crocs, sharks and stingrays keeping pesky humans away!
