Title: Champ de Mars
Post by: Airy on July 29, 2015, 00:46:52
Df + 50/1.4 SC (non-AI, simpler optical formula). Wide open ; I like the drawing style. Focus was on upper left flowers. CA removed, but the LoCA remains. Lightroom has trouble removing it.

The first is beautiful, the way the lens draws is fabulous. Now, if you have moved slightly right you could have avoided the tree cutting the bench.

I like the way you included the figures in #1.  I like the kaleidoscope-like composition of #2.  The muted color rendition of the lens gives a pleasing effect when shooting flowers.

I did not play any trick with colors in #1. The desaturated look is "normal" with this lens, when wide open.

Well done and great examples illustrating the lens and your skills.

Thanks Gary. Exploiting these old lenses' imperfections is actually a nice occupation (a bit expensive too - but no, I'm not gonna buy a Noct). I am starting to understand what other Members here call a "boring" lens. For instance the very good Voigtländer 40/2 could easily become one of these; it requires many more efforts to get an "aha" shot with it. On the other hand, the 50/1.4 SC has more use cases than a Lomograph, as the opposing shots above demonstrate. I still wonder why Lightroom refused to correct the LoCA (the one aberration I never found usable, it simply puts me off). BW conversion should not become the only answer.
