Title: [Theme] Nikkor 1.8/35mm G ED
Post by: Frank Fremerey on October 01, 2019, 15:51:35
Erik's thread (https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=8920.msg147112#msg147112) made me curious of the possibly underappreciated rendering power of the Nikkor 1.8/35mm G ED and I tried to reproduce the nice effect shown on the page...

First set: out of cam wide open, FX.

Second set: strong crops with slight editing, same files.

Feel free to add yours.

The 2nd picture of the first set tells me this lens can be used to create magic.

In that, it reminds me of the 35mm f2 Nikkor-O I use. Magic.

The linked article was an interesting read, but it only has me more curious on the 58mm f1,4.

And that, in turn, reminds me tha I should be out there, taking photographs, rather then sit behind a laptop computer ;)

I vent out yesterday with my Nikkor-O 35mm f2.0
Taken with my Df @f2.0 in my local wood.

maybe the article Erik recommended is right and they really took the Nikkor-O 2.0 as the model for rendering style?

Thank you Erik. For me this lens was just another workhorse in my bag. Then you linked the article and I went exploring

Wonderful examples of this rather unsung optical gem, Frank!

I used to enjoy it on D7000.  Ah, if only the AF of D7000 was more accurate!  One of the added bonus of this lens is that you can focus up to 25cm as opposed to 30cm of all MF Nkkor siblings.  On a DX body, a 52.5mm equivalent being able to focus up to 25cm makes it a true "all-rounder".

yes, Akira, the D7000 or at least some of the cameras were faulty with fast prime AF. I had a lot of trouble with her.

Yes. The lens focusses to 25 cm, so flowershots and dreamy nature shots in general are her domain

These are probably not up to Frank's standard but here are a few examples from me.

I am sure mine are neither standard nor they set a standard. I just try to showcase what this lens can do. The last one has some magic to it In My Eyes
