the house of friends burned down last week - I do not show pics that might identify the place

Very sad :'(
Agree :(

Really sad... Not so because of value of things lost, but because of sentimental attachment to house, furniture, objects, memories, and such.
My stepmother had her house bombed in Caen in WWII, when she was fifteen, nothing was left. No lives lost but all the family heirlooms (pictures, portraits, letters etc.) were lost. All her life she struggled with the loss of memories of the elders of her family, leaving a "clean slate" to start her adult life...

Such a cruel blow.
Although insurance can never replace destroyed historic and personal treasures, hopefully your friends did have insurance so that they can begin to re-build their lives.
-
Sorry about that. Hope there was at least no human damage.
-
Devastating experience, well shown!

Bent, Mfloyd, Ann, Akira, Jakov, thanks for looking and replying, nobody was hurt, the house was empty when the fire started and yes they lost a lot of memories and will have a hard next year with insurances and reconstruction
Jacques, this is even a worse story
Fons, Anthony and John thx for commenting. Interestingly you find a lot of colourful motives in this place. I do not want to ask them if I can go for shooting in there for fun - I did it only because they wished me to take some pictures for the insurances, but it would be worthwhile to spend some hours there.
