The flower itself is indeed a beauty well presented. However, I am not overly enthusiastic about the mottled background as there is a disturbing regular pattern clearly visible, despite the darkness.

I hear you. That's just the way is was. LOL. I like it. In the original ProPhoto version, the green is very deep and lovely. By the time it gets boiled down for web use and for this site, it is just a ghost of itself as you well know. I will try to shoot something similar in better light.  I was busy shooting a series of very fine APO lenses and this one one. Also, did CRT, El Nikkor 105, and Printing Nikor 95. I am forever evaluating lenses. I should evaluate backgrounds too. LOL.

OK. Since you are my major lens guru over the years, here is the same flower, but with some of the background more in focus.

I love the way this mysteriously beautiful flower is presented.  I may prefer the background of the second image, though.

That's why I posted it. It was just a series of checking different lenses in the first. LOL.
