We (wife and I) were actually out looking for American Bald Eagles...but they were elusive this weekend. However, we did see around 30 herons in a lake area. I stalked one in particular for a bit. They were not very keen on me getting as close as I did, so I left it alone after it flew away from me the second time. Didn't want to stress the little fellow out more than I already did. :D

Well captured, they can be shy, but at other times they don’t bother if you get close.

Beautiful, when they open their wings they are spectacular

Thanks. This one was about 50 yards from a bunch of people swimming. The hunting there must have been good, because it did not want to leave that area. I got relatively close, but I could tell that is didn't like me approaching...so I got as few shots and then backed off. I hate stressing animals, especially during meal time or on nests.
