Title: Blood Moon
Post by: ArthurDent on July 25, 2018, 04:53:45
Unfortunately, it won’t be visible here in N. America, but if you live in much of the rest of the world, and especially if you are in the Mideast, East and South Africa, Western Russia or Eastern Europe, it looks like you might have a good opportunity:

Thank you for the info, Arthur, although Japan is not really within the optimal area.

FWIW, some of the last blood moon images can be seen here:

I did not notice any error in your post, but there certainly was one in mine, which is now corrected. It is very early in the morning here and the r and t keys are adjacent to one another on my ipad keyboard leading to a misspelling, my apologies.

It is cloudy here in Tokyo.  There is hardly any glimpse of the moon...   :'(

Instead, a severe typhoon is approaching...   :o :o :o

The weather reports from Tokyo this summer wouldn’t be out of place for Miami! Hang in there, Fall is less than 60 days away.
I hope you are spared from the typhoon, I’ve lived through several hurricanes, no fun. Stock up on bottled water, get several days supply of non-perishable food and some means of cooking it, such as a sterno stove. I found that all the food stores and local restaurants were out of commission after the storm, no power, but we could still get a hot meal at our local hospital cafeteria, as the hospital has an emergency generator and the cafeteria had to be open to support patients, staff and visitors. We also have battery powered led lamps. They are very efficient and the batteries last far longer than they did in the old style lamps. You might want to track down a couple, it’s nice to be able to read after sundown. We also filled up the bathtub so we would have water to flush the toilets, if the power goes off you may lose water pressure. If you have a cooler and can find some dry ice, you may be able to preserve at least some of your perishable food. In a good cooler, and with the application of some discipline to minimize the number of times the cooler is opened, 5 pounds of dry ice could keep your food cold for 3 or 4 days. Good luck!

It was quite foggy, with the moon barely distinguishable from the sky, and the Moon 6.5 degrees above the horizon (not taking into account the surrounding mountains). Picture taken at 21:54, July 27 46.2N 6.24E.

Thank you
Nice photos especially with the people on the frame
In my  first two photos in iso 2500 I noticed white spots on the moon -is it dead pixels?
I also noticed some in Fons pictures

My shots were at iso 8000, the full moon was passing through the sign of capricornus (astronomy), we distuingished the star of deneb showing as a bright spot, also looking at the nightsky there were satellites passing over.

I would say so, if you zoom in on your screen with the original image file you will see them. Not hard to clone out if you plan to print it large..

Fons dots are likely stars, I don't see any on his moon.

We got up a 3:00AM here in Singapore and were rewarded with a very nice view! Not so common with our mostly cloudy conditions.

This was one of my last ones, not exactly a Blood Moon anymore, but an opportunity to explore the D850 in Dx and silent mode. Giving me an equivalent of a 600mm.

Akira-   Did you get through the typhoon ok?

Arthur, thank you for your concern and advice.  The typhoon took the course towards the west, so there were no significant effect on the eastern area including Tokyo.  I'm more concerned about the western part of Japan that has already been severely damaged by the recent insanely heavy rainfall.
