NR reports Essay No 66 in One Thousand nights by Koichi Oshita. It highlights the 400mm f3.5

Translate in Google Chrome works well enough, but, hopefully, the English translation will be published soon with the others http://imaging.nikon.com/history/story/ (http://imaging.nikon.com/history/story/)

I really enjoy hearing these stories which reveal the thinking behind the designs.

One thing mentioned frequently in the article was the Olympics. With 2020 Olympics in Japan, I wonder what sort of lens/camera line-up they will be preparing.

A most valid question. Nikon announced the 500 f4E and 600 f4E on 2nd July 2015, not long after the D500 and D5: well over a year before Rio :-)

Superb as the current versions stand, one often reads on the www that the 200 f2G and 300 f2.8G are overdue to be upgraded to E - FL versions in line with the longer exotic telephotos. So, we probably have to wait for another year....
