Hi,

for those who know me, it's been a long time since my last post. it's nice to get back in touch with you, and also all of you.
I hope I can contribute with interesting experiences in the future.
Well I recently purchased a Samyang 10/2.8 for my D7000...

Importing test photos in Lr (Lightroom Classic CC) I noticed something strange in the EXIF panel.
As you can see from the attached image, Lr sees the lens as a 14mm 2.8 even though the focal length is right. Do I have to take it for Normal or Defective?
And no mention about the brand...

Has anyone experience with Samyang lenses and Lr, in particular the 10mm and 14mm, about brand and lens display in Lr?
Test photos are coming... but I need to know if ask for a replacement...

Marco, welcome back!

My only experience with Samyang was with 7.5mm/f3.5 fisheye, so I'm afraid I cannot help.

But, as Anthony says, I also look forward to some of  your new images (superwide pano, maybe?).

Is your Samyang lens fitted with a CPU chip and associated electrical contacts (5 or more)?

If not, then you need to set your camera up with the correct focal length and aperture data for your lens under the menu functions for non-chipped lenses.

If it is chipped, then maybe its metering chip or its contacts are malfunctioning and you should seek advice from your repairman.

Hugh, yes, the lens is sold already chipped for Nikon... so it might be malfunctioning...
I'll wait more answers, hopefully from Samyang users, before to send it back.

The lens is probably not in LR lens database.
I have a few old chipped MF-lenses which LR thinks they are Zeiss.  ???

The lens is in Lr's database, even though I have to select it manually...

After I select the brand, Lr applies the profile for the 14/2.8, because that's what's in the chip... and I manually, again, select the 10/2.8...

Did you checked the Exif outside LR?
On a Mac you can use preview and look at the "Information" tab.

Attached is the Exif in "Preview". Almost the same thing: right focal length, wrong lens... At least "Preview" shows the Brand, Lr does not.

This guy http://www.rottmerhusen.com/index.html has been collecting lens ID and says it happens that 3rd party manufacturers sometime use the same ID for different lenses: http://www.rottmerhusen.com/objektives/lensid/nikkor.html

See the full list http://www.rottmerhusen.com/objektives/lensid/thirdparty.html. The Samyang 10/2.8 is not yet in his database. You might send him a picture and ask him to if the ID is correctly structured?

This lens looks excellent @f8 and already @f4 shows a very good performance which improves @f5.6, just a bit soft on the left side up to f4... probably some element is not perfectly aligned.
I don't know if this is enough to ask for a replacement but I think I'll keep it. I have no idea about sample variantion for this model and I might go worse changing it.

Marco, your sample seems to behave similarly to my M. Zuiko 25/1.8 for m4/3.  Its image is soft on the left side until around f5.0, which improves at f5.6 and further.

As you already know, the culprit is the field curvature.  And, according to the recent test blog of LensRentals, the curve is not perfectly level.

My fist sample of 25/1.8 bought new showed the affect of the curvature very badly, and Olympus replaced it with a noticeably better sample, but not perfect.

Like you, I didn't want to continue replacing it in search of the impeccable sample and unwillingly decided to stay with my second sample.
