wasn't planning on writing this but somebody made a request and I was in the mood so here it is! :o :o :o

Thanks for this. I'm planning to acquire one of these lenses sometime in the near future. I won't do the inevitable overhaul, but this knowledge will help me in dealing with the service personnel.

yes! this is one of the reasons why I made the blog, so repairmen can't fool anybody :o :o :o

Interesting article, as usual, Richard. Thanks.

The lens you worked on (no.243428) is very early. The first Nikkor-N is no.242801 (the start serial number is taken from the lens focal length and max aperture). Your lens is just the 628th lens made!
-
Many thanks again Richard for another of your useful articles - "forewarned is forearmed " as the saying goes.
-
Thanks, guys!
What would be nice for the next article? the 360-1200mm or the 50-135mm!? :o :o :o
i was thinking about an SP overhaul ::)

Holy fisheye batman! I'm sure Eric will be interested to see this one!
-
He's not the only one :D
We did give the 6 mm f/2.8 a good work-out last year ... an 'Erik' lens if there ever was one :D
-
I will forever associate that lens to Erik, and Erik to the lens. He carried that monster though forests, around lakes, over mountains. At one point I thought he was going to swim in a river with it :)
He is one resolute man for sure!
Richard, Don't tell us you found the lens in the scrap bin!!!
Cheers

50-135 would be interesting. I have one which could use an overhaul.
-
I second 50-135.
-
I third 50-135 AIS, I have one with a bit of fungus in it which I should clean.
-
We know of a guy in Japan that could do this for you (if he is not busy that is) .................... (LOL)

Mine is very clean and sharp, it only misses a cpu. ;D
-
Unfortunately, my CPU inventory is almost completely depleted. Perhaps I might be able to rustle up a spare somewhere, but don't hold your breath. Also run out of sundry items such as the special screws, and parts for contact blocks, although some new material is inbound at present.
That being said, yes the 50-135 is a nice handling zoom lens with beautiful workmanship and a joy to use on the Df. It combines very well with the 6T close-up attachment too.
-
Ai, that sounds not good.
I have a Nikkor-Q.C 200/4.0 Ai-d as well on my list for chipping.

Apologies if this would be a little out of topic. Would it be possible to make an order for sets of CPU? I would like to modify my manual Nikkors and make them more compatible with the newer Nikon. Please do let us know how.
Thanks

the 6mm looks like a plate for peanuts compared to him :o :o :o
