what on earth is going on here?
Flash still works
-
Broken glass (internal) or overheated LCD fluid
-
Yes, needs to go in for service...
-
I assume I should then not use it like this?
-
What happens if you switch it on?
Is there a NPS station near by?
-
It turns on no problem and I can change the MODE
I used it on Saturday for the shoot and had no issues that I am aware of
Keep in mind my knowledge of flash is -Zero.
-
Ok. Then the flash seems ok, only the display is broken.
Half the people I know with iPhones have broken displays
-
you need a new display - i think one can see the v-shaped crack
the blue areas are already without liquid crystal, the brown ones around with changed layer thickness, spacers have moved
the display itself is a passive part, so it should not harm the rest of the flash´s electronic
-
:(
-
I suppose I will go off to Nikon then :)
I was also given another SB800 by a friend - but its not working - and I think because the batteries leaked
might as well take that in too
-
Hi Elsa, it's indeed a broken display.
It can be seen the line where an unwanted force broke it.
Replace the screen. If they ask too much, just bought another one on ebay...
-
so weird since I seriously have no idea how it could have happened - just shows you -

Elsa, with your talent ... you don't need no stinking flash.
-
Gary - you are definitely the flavour of my month
incidentally - Nikon says cracked LCD. wont affect the use of the flash - so it will stay as is

You can make selections without the LCD being operational?
-
I can still read the digits :)
