Nikon D200 converted to IR recently acquired from Christian (typestar) right here in the classified adds, an excellent camera that arrived very fast too. Thanks!
I took it today for a spin.
-
I did nearly buy her, but waited a few minutes too long. Great to know it is in good hands. Use her for IT-Dance!!! The hotter the dance the glows the IR picture *-)
-
IT-dansa. How come you know that company? Impressive. I might come to Bcn in a week but it is a long shot. Better chances to go to Paris 27th-28th. Anyone there?
Once again, IR is a blast. I keep on playing with the images and it suits me just fine :)

I had no time to post lately so please, indulge me. A couple more from today.

Not set on colors ;)
The di-gps is pretty fast and accurate. Have never used such a device before and can only compare to my phone and the d5300. This one seems to work better than the camera, not as fast as the phone. It drains battery and I may not use it regularly but it is nice to have if I want to tag at specific times.
I let all the metadata intact in every image, including gps.

In comparision, the d200 behaves closer to what i´m use to with the d80. The d5300 with lifepixel filter -also 720nm- is very different. Very. I can´t not white balance as everytime I try, the image becomes colorless or other type of monochrome. Nikon software, lightroom, custom dng profiles, Photoshop.. I haven´t been able to get colors from it. I can add, of course, but I can not extract from the files. Any Ideas?
-
I have similar experience with my d5300 more difficult to extract colours, or differently from the d60 i used before.
So my approach to editing is different.
-
I envy you. Great that you got the piece. The seller can be proud that he supported such talent....

IR Dance

IT Dance
Auto Correction Magic

Paco, try using curves in Photoshop.
-
Fons, I will interested in how do you approach post with the d5300.
Frank, I was lucky enough to find it a little sonner...you can borrow it in Granada as much as you want :D
IT-dansa is a young company from Barcelona. I was part of the first cast the year it was created. The company is still working and in good health.
I tried Jakov, to no avail. Anyone feel free to give it a try:

Original nef from the same place you can see in the last image. It has some plants, stone, white Church. Nothing works so far.
-
This looks like a 900nm filter...
-
Ummm....it is supposed to be 720
-
The only other thing that I could add is to test the 2 cameras side by side.
Same scene, same lens, etc.
(nothing wrong with shooting at 900nm for the dramatic B&W scenery)
-
Thanks Jakov, I´ll try that.

Paco, take a look at this post by Bjørn Rørslett: http://nikongear.net/revival/index.php/topic,738.msg6172.html#msg6172 (See Reply No. 4).
Perhaps if you follow what Bjørn did, your GPS performance on the D5300 will also improve. Lets hope so. (My apolgies if your D5300 already has had the Assisted GPS (A-GPS) file loaded to its memory card.)
Good Luck.

Edit the ir-d5300 raw files in photoshop
After first edits in cameraraw (acr),
open file again in acr, now adjust wb for the 2nd time.
hue/saturation tab gives many options to work with colours,
also channel mixer tab.
And Jakov's suggestion for the RGB curves.
additionally plugins like niks and topaz
will also give you some options on colour adjustments.
-
Thanks Hugh, I didn´t need it. Camera will lock on a position in +- 2 min regardless where so far. Buildings can be a pain for any gps signal.
Fons, I´m still trying. Thanks for some new things to try.
-
Nice to see my camera in good hands!
and I could have sold it three times within the first hour... ;)
So a bargain, I hope, for the new owner
I liked the results -- a little bit grainy -- but: this is 12 years old now
(but new... ;-) -- Just a few of the shots, beautiful Istria, first week of September...
first and second out the car... (1st: waiting for passport-control on croatian boarder, 2nd on the highway out of rolling car
all hand-held with this D200 + AF-S 18-70 mm)
Best wishes to all
christian

Paco, your photographic style seems to suit the IR rendition very well!
